Here is the week old pic of the possible Splash EE I was asking about on the other thread. I'll get a picture of her tomorrow.. she's now 4 weeks old. Somehow I missed the little colors on her wings all this time. I bought 5 of them, all different colors. So if you want to see others just let me know. Do all blue legged chickens laid blue eggs? I heard that some where but my neighbor thinks one of my banty's is a blue Andalusian cross possibly & says it will lay a cream egg. Weirdest chick I've ever seen tho. It has blue feathers.. black beak, black/blue legs & black beady eyes. I'll attach a pick of it too... if anyone has any clue what it is I"d be thrilled to know.
Pictures of my EE chicks
Great looking birds, both of them. I'll be looking forward to seeing them in the next photo op. Hay. P. S. I have some blue andalusians and they are wonderful birds.
Oh I love them! I believe that is a blue wheaten Ameraucana chick.. I have one identical..nearly the exact same age! I'll get a pic tomorrow.. You are gonna be shocked that I have that chick's twin..
Where did you say they came from?
That lil blue is darling!
No, all birds with blue legs don't lay blue eggs.. too bad, she would have beautiful eggs with those legs!
Is there anywhere that has good pictures as well as descriptions of chicken colors? I'm having a wonderful time trying to figure out what mine will "be". The EE's are all different, but most have stripes of some kind. My Turkens are the surprise, they all started out yellow, so I thought they'd all be the same. NOT! They're developing very different coloration, although I have no idea what to call them *G*.
I need a "simple" site. I have one with lots of great pictures, but I get lost in trying to understand why two very different colored birds are given the same color description.

Then again, it doesn't really matter, I'm sure I can find other things to obsess about....
That's a great site! It is hard to learn colors.. I don't have them all down yet, I'm sure.
I bought the Standard of Perfection and stare and stare.. still all the color combos are not in there!
Grumble. Money again. Not only do they need all kinds of stuff to "start", now i HAVE to buy books. What a shame. Oh, how will i manage? Oh, woe is me. I HAVE to go look for chicken books. To think I decided to keep chickens to save money (okay, we all know it's an excuse, please don't tell).
I have a book called the $64 Tomato (which, BTW is low for me). I think i'll write the sequel. The $75 egg.....
>^..^
ZZsBabiez - I "think" i have a chick that does look like that.. & that pic is adorable! I'll grab pictures of "blues" sisters a bit later, still at work now. They are all very strangely colored & loud. very very loud. I bought them at the local farm store Atwoods. They are all straight run but it looks like this batch is all girls. The lil blue one was blue from the start.. as a chick too.. only chick I've seen keep its color from fuzz to feathers. It was such a strange colored chick was the only reason I bought more.. i just had to have it.
That pic of my chick is horrible.. She is not all blue like that.. or at least not that much.. Or have I just not noticed that blue coming in..?
and this is Matilda, I got her the same time as the speckled white one.. any clue what color you'd call her? They guy said she was a gray polish but the pictures I found she wasn't the right colors for that really. I'm starting to figure out he must let his chickens cross or he just doesn't understand colors very well & I forgot.. i got the EE's from a guy who sells day old chicks about a 100 miles north of me not Atwoods. The blue chick came from Atwoods. I wasn't very clear on that at first.
How likely would it be that the blue one & her 3 sisters I got from the farm store could be Seramas? idk what colors those come in but these chicks are so very tiny. My other bantams dwarf them at 2 months in size but these seem to have stopped growing at this tiny little size & they are nearly 2.5 months now. I know that this particular store gets left over day old chicks from a hatchery in Texas that wasn't sold for regular mail orders. Supposedly these were bantams but idk that I trust them not to sell other chicks in the same box. Just a thought.. I found a site for them & one of the chicks looked similar to one of the others.
I have no clue, but am enjoying the pics!
I don't know Old English Game that well... so given that bit of knowledge.. I'd bet that's what your blue is. Her face looks "gamy" to me. They are actually showing OEG birds in the big shows that are smaller than Seramas! We are talking 6 oz full grown birds!
IMHO.. There is a lot more to Seramas than just their small size. Her back is way too long to be a Serama.. and her wings would be more vertical... Her chest would be much bigger.. with her head set back behind her breast..
With that said.. She is DARLING! So is that lil EE.. she's gonna have a big muff.. how cute! I think you can safely call her a tri-color. My absolute favorite color..
well thats more than I know.. bc i know nothing about OEG. When i started this 15 yrs ago i wasnt in it to find out the types & colors... this time.. i'm falling in love with the different types & colors. As for the EE I will have to get more tri colored ones.. I absolutely love them. Do you know if the Tri coloring carries over when you breed them? bc my neighbor has a pen set up so that I can put a couple hens in with a roo for a few days then we can incubate the eggs. The Seramas I saw were adorable.. I'd love to have a few of them too but i'm afraid they would get eaten by something as tiny as they are where i live.
Wow.. she is beautiful!! You got some beautiful birds.. I think they are amazingly pretty..
I better shut up.. Catscan will tease me for being putty over that color.. LOL
Here's Blue's sister... idk if she's a tri color or not.. but she's got 3 different colors on her at least. The other one was acute chick but not such a cute teenage chick.. & the silkie I got at that time.. is lemon & slate blue with a bit of cream.. i'm curious to see if I can have a tri colored silkie when its full grown or if it will lose the blue & cream as it grows.
I can understand why you love it so much. I'm seriously thinking about fixing the fence on my other 5 acres behind me & filling it with random chickens!
Yeah, they change so much, it's hard to recognize them sometimes! I have no idea what colors they will end up with.. Mine too! I was looking at her today and she IS more blue than I thought!
The teenager stage is so hard to predict..
Wow.. That's a big undertaking! I know.. I started to build a chicken empire.. but it didn't work out with the job and location I have.. I had to cut back.. I'm finally starting to narrow it down to what breeds I want... or what colors I want..
The only sure thing is.. I love blue eggs and blue eggers..
If I can ever get my camera working, I'll post some pictures and maybe y'all can tell me what colors they resemble.
But.
You have to promise not to make fun of the Turkens. They have interesting colors, so I'd like to show them, but not if they will be snickered at. They are very sensitive....
Catmad! So glad you decided to join us. I can tell your a mess like the rest of us. Love that color web site. I'm with you, totally confused on the colors, but I forgot to tell you I am color blind. That really makes it difficult. Can't wait for that $75.00 sequel to come out. LOL Have a great day.
GreyKyttyn I agree with ZZ.s those are so great colors on those birds. I can't wait to see what they look like at about two months old. Haystack
ZZsBabiez - I "think" I have a tri color silkie bantam.. :) the more feathers she gets she is lemon, blueish & black. She's so ugly right now that she's cute. she's midway thru feathering out & boy is she noisy.
Haystack - I can't wait for them to hit the 2 month mark either. I've taken nearly 200 pictures to date of them. It seems like they change a little every day.
Unfortunately it looks like I've definitely got 2 Welsummer Roos, possibly 1 more & only 2 girls. All 5 EE's still look like girls. I names Blues group of chicks.. Blue is Bella (bc she's accident prone & quiet), the lemon one is Alice (bc she's dainty looking), The black & gold laced one is Rosalie (bc she's mouthy & rude) & the dirty colored one is Esme (bc she's quiet & sweet)
I love that pic! They look like they belong there.. so cute!
