Another good reason to wear garden gloves.

Our dental hygienist had to get 4 stitches in her finger and a tetanus shot. She was walking around in her garden and noticed a weed near her ornamental grass. When she pulled the weed out she also grabbed a blade of the grass, she suffered a very deep cut. She was a hurtin' girl by the end of her work day, I was surprised she made it through her day.

Please wear you gloves!!

Really is good to wear gloves all the time. Preserve your fine manicure ! LOL Prevent age spots on your hands--vanity is sadly often a better motivator than safety!

My garden gloves were so bad that there were more holes than glove material. Can't imagine how happy I was when I got a new pair of Atlas gloves from the swap. Yeah!!!! Now I just need to get a good pair of heavy gloves for those raspberries.

Even wearing gloves, a long sleeved shirt, long pants, and shoes I have been cut by grass, a long blades managed to worm its way into and up my pants leg. Got cut when I tried to pull it out. I still love the Pampas grass, I just try tobe extra careful around it.

Ugh....love my gloves but sadly too lazy to go get them as I stop and pull just "a couple of weeds." Definitely need to be better about that!!! Thanks Chris for the head's up.

Helps to have about ten pairs of gloves, and keep some by every door in the house--Kind of like, you need a dozen pens before you can ever "find one" when you need it.

Those Atlas gloves are great, I have several pair, they last for years, my fingernails will wear a hole in the tips eventually. They are the only gloves I can garden in and get at the tiny weeds in the very middle of a plant. Now that is saying a lot about a pair of gloves.

You are right Sally I have pairs of old gloves all over the place, well I should say that I have gloves all over the place they aren't all pairs. LOL Those atlas gloves are what we had at work and I would bring my old work gloves home when I got a new pair at work. They are really good gloves.

LOVE the Atlas gloves - my favorites by far!!

Lady, I'm a bad one for this. Every time I pass a bed, I stop and pull weeds, even on my way to the car for work. Hands are permanently stained and have to bleach them once a week.

Another thing is when digging. My road side bed is full of buried glass from years of people tossing bottles out of car windows.

Those vole cages can really tear up your hands when weeding and planting.

The Atlas gloves are my favorite too, but they don't offer enough protection for tougher jobs like weeding thistle. I use old leather work gloves for that.

I remember a couple of years ago the Garden Gate Mag, had these Rose gloves, they were fitted leather with gauntlets. I wanted them so bad but they were pretty $$ and when I finally tried to order them they were sold out. So I use an old pair of Ric's with a pair of knit gloves under them and they are still huge. One of these days I'm going to get me a pair of those "fancy" gloves. LOL

All of this talk of gloves just inspired me to go and wash mine. They got a real workout with the swap prep! I always keep two pair of Atlas going because I usually end up soaking a pair with something gross like fish emulsion.

Holly, for about $12, in the fireplace accesory dept of HD, you can get those sturdy elbow length gloves that are for use when working around flames. That's a lot better than $35 for the rose gloves. DSO bought me a pair of the rose gloves for Valentine's day a couple of years back. The first time I used them, while snipping the stems, I snipped the end of the fingertip off of the glove!!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I'll check those out. Sorry had to LOL over the sniped glove. Isn't that the way it always happens. LOL
I think I really liked the idea of how fitted those rose gloves looked.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Yes, they are nice fitting. I still use them, not so much with the roses, but anytime I'm working in an area that has poison ivy growing nearby. They are however deathly hot in the summer.

Probably good for the cuticles then....LOL

Stormy, LOL that picture would have been just the right one to open this thread with.
Good thing it was the glove and not your finger you snipped off. OUCH!
