This afternoon I caught sight of some movement at the back of the yard behind the daylilies. It was a juvenile American Robin. Such cute little things!
Deep Within the Daylilies
Nice pics...love the third one especially.
Thanks. I was 70 feet away from them. Was surprised they turned out at all.
Is that the only baby you have seen?
I haven't really been looking for them but I still hear a lot calling from the nests.
Nice photos, pelle .... just curious, do you have a lot of daylilies ?
Only about 450 now.
Nice series Pelle...really sweet shots and how great to get them with that name tag! Couldn't have been any better if you had planned it!
LOL, "only about 450"
Very cute baby robin!
Gorgeous series, Pelle. The last one is so sweet.
Out of only 450 daylilies , do you have a favorite?
pelle, wow !!! I have 300+ different daylily cultivars and am finding it difficult to keep the weeds from overtaking the gardens. Of course, a lot of my free time I spend birding and when I come home I'm too tired to pull one weed. Do you do any hybridizing ? I started but then again I couldn't find adequate time. Perhaps it's all for the birds !!!
That's some great pics Pelle! I love the story that goes along with it as well. :)
Thanks guys!
Linth, I do not hybridize and we are having a really tough time keeping up with weeds. :-(
Lynn, I couldn't pick one favorite. Here are some I love.
Fancy Face
Spiderman
Instant Gratification
Sabine Baur
Waiting in the Wings
Vested Interest
Egyptian Queen
pelletory,Nice shots, our robins are just now nesting, but a funny thing happened, robins eating grape jelly, and cat birds, almost at the same time I will try to get a shot of them.I know robins are eating more seed nowdays.you are going to hate me when I say this,I just gave away 12 daylilys,I dont get enough sun for them,so they dont perform well me,so i found them a new home in the sun!!! It was only 3 varieties.I drive by a lily farm once a week, cant wait to see them in bloom ,Ill probly have to stop and take pix when they are blooming.
Hi hugger, I don't hate you at all. I would love to get rid of at least 1/2 my daylilies but my DH won't go for that.
The reason I would like to be rid of them is because I no longer can take good care of them due to a back injury.

pelletory,I understand the back thing, sadly.Hey what about the robins eating grape jelly ???
I have not seen any at mine but its contained in a saucer style feeder. That doesn't surprise me about the robins or catbird.
I have maybe a dozen lilies! LOL.
I have about 150 I planted too close in the fall of 2007...good grief I hate the thought of splitting them up not to mention the weeding from all the rain we have had. I just love it when they bloom though so it is worth it...I think....
I saw a Robin making a nest in the front yard maple tree then later that day I saw her chasing off some Cowbirds..I haven't seen her come back so I think she abandoned the nest.
dellrose,We were watching a robin work on a nest for days it was funny ,she picked a bad spot,it just wouldnt stay put, finally she gave up on that one, found another spot about 15 ft away in another tree, only took her a day to build that nest, much better spot !! if it was the same bird as last yr. she went through the same thing, rookie or what!! now they are eating the grape jelly.I will have to get pictures.I have 3 robin nests this yr,and 2 jenny wrens in houses,no luck with Ebs yet, they eat here everyday,Iam assuming they have allready found a nesting site, have a great day Tamara
Hi Tamara, What are jenny wrens? I know thats a local type of name. Just curious. :-)
A Jenny Wren is really a House Wren. In my parents era, that's the term that they used (in PA).
Thanks!
Adorable shots Pelle!!
Cute pics pelle!
Thank you!
Those are nice Pelle, I love your last shot.
