I spotted a Golden Eagle in a wetland area which runs along a power line in Stafford two weeks ago. It is the same area I have been photographing Bald Eagles in. How common are they this far South East?
Golden Eagle
They are sprinkled throughout that area according to National Geographic.

They're *very* uncommon in the south east this time of year. You might have seen a young (immature) bald eagle. Before bald eagles reach breeding age, they don't have the characteristic white head or tail and are very often confused with golden eagles. Bald Eagle nests are just about at the fledging age around here, so if there was a nest in the swamp where you normally see them, the bird might have been one of their fledglings?
