Brugs Newbie here.
The larger var. one was an Ebay purchase (supposedly an easy to grow single white?) before I found Dave's. It was a small rooted cutting mid to late last summer. The large bottom offshoot is only about 4-6 weeks old and close to the same size as the main stalk. Any idea when these might bloom?
Know about the Y before blooms appear, but the top does not seem to want to branch. Instead the bottom shoot came out of nowhere. Any advice? Cut the bottom and root it, etc.....
When might these bloom?

Brugs are heavy feeders. Have you fertilized you plants? Fertilizing, at least once a week during active growth, is the best way to get your Brugs to grow. Liquid fertilizer, such as MiracleGro will work. It many seem trite, but it will form buds when it forms buds and does so at its own height There isn't much we can do to change that other than to fertilize and keep them healthy. I haven't read of any way to force them to produce buds before their time. I have had cuttings produce blooms while still small cuttings. I have also had to wait until the plants were over 7' tall before getting a bloom. Fertilize!
Don't cut anything from your plant now. All the nutrients the leaves produce help the plants grow faster. Brugs are more like shrubs that grow the size of a tree so the tendency is to produce multiple branches. Later in the fall if you would like to have a Brug standard, cut one of the tall straight branches that has "Y"ed and root it. Once you have a straight trunk with several ""Y"s up on top, you can rub off all new growth that pops up to force growth at the top and your Brug will keep its tree shape. Because the tendency is to branch out, you will have to keep rubbing off new growth from the trunk as well as growth that pops up out of the ground. I hope this helps.
Thanks for the info. They do get fertilized well - weekly foliar and regular ground. Figured they would want to bloom on their own time schedule unfortunately.
August 7 th
Chuckle, chuckle - I'll mark the calendar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope it's not that long of a wait.
The varigated one look like it is getting busy at the top so I would not be surprised to see a Y soon. Good Luck!
Chuck, You've been given wonderful information from Betty & Brenda, but I think Dr. Gordon has the due date correct.....it looks like 08-07-09 to me too ;)
Took a little longer than the guesstimates, first week of October. I'm happy and hooked after my first time at Brugs and Dats. The Brug fragrance is wonderful.
The other three Brugs are doing good, all have Y'd, and a Pink Desiree had a couple buds but dropped them. Now to overwinter them and expecting great things next spring.
well not too far off. point being it will flower when it hasmet it's other needs/desires...you understand not alll get to bloom right away... your good feeding sure made it look great at the flowering time..guess it had to cool down some there...
