Does anyone love nitrile gloves?

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

It just occured to me that some of you may appreciate this, as I have been SOOO happy to have found them.

I know that we all love to play in the dirt, and that almost always involves gloves of some type or another. My very favorite are the nitrile palmed gloves....thin enough that I can handle seedlings without mangling them and can pull the tiniest of weeds...and the tips last through more than one day in the garden. The downside of them was that they were expensive...cheapest I found was when they were on sale for 4.99 a pair at Freddies every once and a while. Then one day I got a catalog at work that had tons of gloves, safety glasses, and other safety equip...and sure enough, they had the nitrile palmed gloves....for less than $4 per pair shipped if you buy a dozen. I bought one package to see if they held up as well as the ones that I had purchased locally, and they sure did! Now I won't buy gloves anywhere else.

If you haven't tried the nitrile gloves, I would highly recommend giving them a try! And if you love them, check out the prices at Galeton before you buy any more. This is the link to my favorite style, but they have a feather flex in black that is great too. (part # 5980)

I love those gloves, thanks for giving me a pair. I definitely will order some. Does anyone want to go in with me on a purchase?

I ordered a box full from a co-op last year, enough for a few years. I love them also.

RJ I have heard you talk about those gloves before...... Are they washable? And where can I find that wonderful hand tool with the red handle? I am basically behind in my gardening endeavors because I had misplaced the one your Mom gave to me. ( I even Googled it without success)

This all sounds great, the gloves, that is. How long do they actually last? I tend to become exasperated and just tear off my gloves! I don't know how surgeons do it....Although it's been awhile, the condom analogy comes to mind---just never thin enough or strong enough!

Lynn, We are ready to order a set of the white ones again, so we can make the order together.

Azorina, The gloves are washable, but I think I have only realistically washed a few pair, and those are the ones that I have used when I went fishing. The palms rinse off with water, and the backing is breathable so dries quickly...they don't get anywhere near as yucky as other gloves that soak up the muck do. If you want to try some, we can hook you up...and you can go in on the order we make soon! As for the tool, we buy it at McLendons. It is WAY easily misplaced, especially when the red handle is chewed off by your favorite garden helper. That's why we try to paint ours a bright color.... so we can find where we set it down! I think that I may have lost several to my compost pile over the years.

Velveteena, I would say that the gloves last about four full weekends of very agressive gardening before the finger tips start to wear out. I can go through a pair of the fabric gloves in half a day of agressive gardening. The palm is nitrile, but the back is a mesh type material, so they breathe way better than rubber gloves would. Similar gloves that would be easy to try are the Atlas gloves that Fred Meyer sells. If you like them, you would like these.

RJ I go through so many gloves I have no problem ordering too many. We don't have a Mclendons nearby so I guess I need to make a trip to your neighborhood..........gotta go the sun is out!

Why don't you guys do a co-op for them? There are always people willing to buy them. I just sold extras for $3.65 a pair including shipping that people were saying were too much because they were cheaper by the case. I only bought a dozen 'cause it was cheaper for me to buy that way than to get a couple of pair.

Go into the co-op files. But, be sure to measure first. The measurement is on their homepage.

Rarejem, I wasn't aware of the Nitrile garden gloves, I'll have to check it out. I use the nitrile exam gloves all the time when I'm working with chemicals, and cement products. I buy them at Costco. thanks for the post, hostajim1

I feel like a dozen is barely enough! When they get soaking wet, I lay them out and move on to the next pair. Love them, too, as my hand is very small and there are very few garden gloves that fit me the way I want them to.

Azorina, I pass by Mclendons reagularly and would be happy to pick you up a tool or two. My friend from Minnesota found they at, I believe, Gardeners supply, and ordered some. I gasped as they are SO much more expensive there and I will be visiting her in June. (Not a carry-on item for the plane, however.). They are 7.95 or so at Mclendons.

I believe if you buy by the case they are under $3. Free shipping.

The one great aspect to Nitrile Gloves is that they are the most chemically impervious there is. Bar none. But I don't recommend using them more than once with chemicals, as you will begin to wonder which side is clean....
