Hey, Ya'll!

I'm gonna be growing acorn and butternut squash in my Fall garden. Never have grown squash before and need some advice re: planting in my eBuckets vs. planting in my EBs. Looks like squash make a running vine, is this correct? My EBs are sitting about 2 ft. off the ground on scaffold boards. The eBuckets sit directly on the ground. Please advise which container would work better for these plants.

Also, how much would I need to plant to yield enough squash to peel, slice, blanch, and freeze to last 6 months for a two-person household?

Thanks

Linda

the squash i'm growin don't vine, they are lemon squash..but, i've had to stake the biggest one, it falls over and i was afraid the stem would break

Angiegr: You are welcome, everyone wants me to plant squash and zucchini next time; but, I thought they were hard to grow???? What do you think in comparison to tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplants and cucumbers?

joy, squash is one of the easiest things you can grow !! i have been helping mine along by hand pollinating, just to be sure

Um, can I get an answer to my question about yield? Remember, I'm a newbie at this squash thing.

Thanks.

Gymgirl: You and me both, hand pollinating??? What is that? LOL I got a few bees, won't that work?

haha i just hand polinate to be sure they "get it on" like they should LOL and gymgirl, i have no idea how much you need to plant for that.....I'm new to growing vegetables this year, but i would venture to say at least 4-5 plants

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Uh, angiegr, I'm not getting "hand pollinating" from a new veggie gardener! How can this be?! You're a veggie prodigy, right?

gymgirl, let's just say i read alot !! i tried winter sowing flowers for the first time this year too with excellent results
