How long can eggs stay out?

springfield area, MO(Zone 5b)

Someone gave me a dozen farm eggs at church last night.
Well when I got home, I got distracted and forgot to put them in the fridge.
Still on the counter this morning.
Are they still good or do I need to toss them?
I thought they might be ok for baking, but probably not frying?
Any thoughts...

They should be absolutely fine.

My Granny Murphy use to leave her eggs in a bowl out on the kitchen table, and did not refrigerate them at all, but keep in mind that, with a big family, she used them up quickly. The book, "Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens" (which I strongly recommend), says that an egg stored at room temperature ages the same amount in 1 day, as an egg ages in one week in the refrigerator. So, use that as your guide for using them. ;)

Don't forget about the "float test" too. In a pan of water, a fresh egg will settle to the bottom of the pan. The big eng of a one-week-old egg will slightly rise up, the big end of a stale egg (2-3 weeks old) will float upwards with the little end of the egg resting on the bottom of the pan, and a very old egg will float!! ....The float test isn't totally foolproof, but it's one test you can do.

Hope this helps! :)

Just think about the restaurant you have breakfast at and how hot the kitchen is. The leave stacks of eggs out for the breakfast run and it's just fine.
