An Indigo Bunting!!! (I think . . . )

Bloomington, IN(Zone 6a)

In Des Plaines, Illinois! The picture is not good because I shot on telephoto through my window. Telephoto's never been great on this camera and windows are obstacles.) But - I'm so excited! I really think it's an Indigo Bunting! Plus, a couple of weeks ago I saw my feeders filled with Red Breasted Grosbeaks for a couple of days! They disappeared, so I think they were migrating. This bird is so pretty!

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Hi,
I live in Algonquin, Illinois (near the Fox River) and we have Indigo Buntings every spring. That is definitely an Indigo Bunting & the best part is once you get used to looking for them, you might see them on & off all spring & early summer. They'll usually show up in northern Illinois late april. They will sometimes visit feeders & some have a real taste for Niger seed (also called Thistle).

The Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks show up about the same time. They like black oil sunflower seeds & safflower seeds & may stay around if you have feeders (particularly ones with trays that they can eat out of). The female is about the same size as the male. she looks kind of like a female house finch, but with white stripes on her head (front-to-back).

You are very lucky to have seen such beautiful birds. ENJOY!!
