leaves look like hibiscus

Roma, TX(Zone 9b)

I have a plant that has leaves like hibiscus but lighter in color. The flower is red but does not open
completely and stays rolled up like a cigar..at first I thought it was a hibiscus but no..

Yes, it sounds like the species of Hibiscus shown at this site:

Take a look at the site and see if that's what you have.

Sounds like Turk's cap (Malvaviscus), the flowers fit your description. It is in the same family as hibiscus so that's why the leaves look similar. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=malvaviscus&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&searcher%5Bgrex%5D=&search_prefs%5Bblank_cultivar%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search If you don't think that looks like it, it would help if you could post a picture.

starr56, does the bloom look like this one, if so than its like ecrane3 and KayJones said, its a Turk's cap. they also come in pink and white. What I like about Turk's cap is that they always have lots of blooms on them.
