CLOSED: LOOKING FOR: Crepe Myrtle Cuttings
Would you mind sharing how you root them.. I just cut mine back a few days ago.. have the wood in wet perlite right now but am not sure what to do. Sorry mine is not the color you are looking for. I just cut some lower limbs that were getting out of control.

Hello!!
All I did was take the hard wood cutting and I dipped them in powder root hormone. After that I placed 5 straight in the ground and kept them moist. They get some morning sun and a little afternoon shade. Then I placed 6 in potting soil that has fertilizer in it and placed them in the shade and kept moist. It took about 3-4 weeks and I started seeing buds and now everyone of them have leaves coming out. I hope this helps!!
Thank you,
Dana
i need to do to my little miniature crapes as i want to bonsai them. and emerald do crape myrtles do better in full texas sun?
Mamajack,
Every crepe around here in Fredericksburg is in full TX sun. I have not seen one in shade or protected from afternoon sun and they always look nice. I am sure they are given some water, but not much. We get into the 100's easy during the summer and have frequent droughts and they look good. I hope this helps you!!
LhasaLover,
If you have a few cutting you could share of yours - I would love some! Just let me know and thank you!!

I can look to see if there is something else I can cut .. how long do you want them? The longer.. the more difficult to ship. I am sure I can find something I can cut. I don't know about the ones I already cut.... I forgot to put rooting hormone on them and they sat out for several hours before they were put in water... that day was a very busy day. That Crepe Myrtle of mine is almost 20 years old. It is on a West facing wall and gets blasted by the afternoon and evening sun. It is protected in winter though.
lhasa did you look into arilbred iris?
I can't afford to buy anything right now.. been out of work since October with absolutely no income. They sure look nice but I have to pinch pennys until I get something.

If you can get some cuttings - great, but if you can not do not worry. I can always get back with you in the fall. If they could be about 6-8" that way I can stick them deep in the dirt. I can send $$ for shipping. Just let me know and thank you!!
Dana
PS - I will keep my fingers crossed you find a job soon!!
Give me a little time.. it will be a few days before I get back out in the yard. I will not forget. Just need some time... there is a lot going on right now.
Send me a private d-mail so I can keep better track of you when I have them. I can then find you more easily to let you know than this thread.

Hello cjcjmass,
Just let me know when you can get some seedlings and how much shipping would be. If we can wait to the middle of next month - would be great! My daughters are going on summer break in a couple of weeks - so I need things to settle down just a bit. Thank you so much - oh about how tall will they be?
TY,
Dana
They are all under 12 inch tall i'm not sure how much shipping would be. Do you have anything that is rooted that we can trade?
No not right now. Sorry!
I have rooted crepe myrtles. Watermelon pink, lavendar and a deep red. I would like clematis (rooted) or any subtropicals, tropicals. Or tempt me.
Barbara
