Wow! I don't know Hoya's for identifying but I sure would like to find a garden sale like that one! Beautiful bloom and I like the shape of those leaves too. Sure hope you get an ID on that one!

Hi Ric,
Really bizarre texture on the blooms...I like it!
Was it a sale? or a Garden Center in St. Pete?
If the second...I've like to visit it sometime.

That is the most beautiful color, Ric! Thanks for sharing............
Joni wants it! (LOL)

Wow indeed. The flowers are very carnosa-like, but that colour sure isn't. And the leaves are a mystery to me too, I love the way they recurve. Hello!! We need an expert here!!

Ric,
It’s beautiful!
Sorry, I have no clue.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

No clue. Have you sent it to Mark?

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

I'll drop Mark a D-mail and I also sent it to Chris Burton. It is an unusual leaf and with very dark new growth.

Joni, it was a garden sale with lots of venders....I wish I found out more about the seller.......It was packed with people, I can't even remember what she looks like. Maybe I'll run into her at this months Rare plant society meeting.

Maybe a cv Minibelle?

Thanks hills........the leaves are over three times as wide and the flowers are bigger than a cv. Minibelle

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

I LOVE mysteries!!! Keep us informed....please! And may I be the first to ask for a trade when she grows up?

Ric, maybe it's some mutation of a H. pubicalyx or carnosa cultivar- it will be interesting to see if the new growth on this plant is the same for you as the old growth. If it is stable, not a function of cultivation conditions, it might prove to be an interesting new cultivar.

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Thanks Mark.....I did see older leaves and new growth and they both had the similar boat shaped leaves. To me, it looks more like a pubicalyx. Let me grow it out and I'll keep you all posted. And maybe I can get more cuttings when I go to the rare plant meet next week.

Thanks,
Ric

Joni,
I wish I had enough of it to share with everyone. But I only have a 2 node cutting. If I'm lucky enough to meet the lady that sold it to me, I'll try to get some more. I'd like to meet you as well. Lets plan!!!

As I was moving plants in this evening due to the threat of heavy frost this evening....(?????this is so not right????)....I noticed the new leaves on my Red Buttons look similar to the leaves you posted, Ric. Do you have Red Buttons to compare it to?

Ric,
Sounds great!
I do not want you to think I meant I wanted your cutting...just excited that we may be able to get another to be able to ID it.
I sent you a dmail...

I've been googling and found this: http://www.tampabay.com/features/homeandgarden/article1001226.ece "Holloway Haven" sounds like a wonderful place to visit! I sure would love to be there during one of their sales! I googled some more - they even have rental cottages! Look at the great plants in this little video stream thing: http://www.thefloridarentalcottage.com/holloway_haven.html. Great white night blooming cereus trailing around that tree branch!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lin, I want to know if they have a sale every year. Thank you so much for the article. That is worth planning a trip.................better than any I could think of!!

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Kelly,
Humm,....I have a bunch of the pubicalyx clan, but I don't have them labled.
From all of the hoya leaves I've seen, I've never seen this kind of leaf! It may very well be that cultural conditions have something to do with it. I'll grow it and see. Brrr.....hope you cold spell was a lot milder then expected. Can you post pics of your red buttons leaf and flower?

Thanks!

Joni.....no not for a second, I know you are trying to help with the ID. Come over and we can analyze it.

Lin....sounds like a wonderful place......will have to keep it in mind. Its 10min from me.

Ric,
Here is one of the new leaves on Red Buttons....might not be as close as I thought.
The flowers are this one are suppose to be dark...
Hope you can figure out what it is!

Kelly,
Nice dark new growth......but the cutting I have looks different. Its very boat shaped on the new and old growth. I hope the cutting grows out to have the same boat shaped leaves....it would make a beautiful plant.

Thanks

Ric - were the flowers very old that the lady pulled off the plant ?
Just an observation - they look to me like they were on their
way 'out '. Like if they were drying out... I wonder if they look
the same fresh ?
