I just have to show some of my plants. This is the first year I have grown anything other than tomatoes this way. I envy you guys in Florida and California in zone 9 but this is almost in your league! First my first box of tomatoes. Frankly, the cool nights early on didn't help fruit wise( I potted up on March 9) but these stalks surely give me bragging rights here in SC and I am beginning to get fruit set. You guys all seem to have well arranged orderly plots, my containers are scattered about in my other plantings so far.

Look at these plants !! and this is zone 7b!
Gessieviolet: Looking great there. I have never seen such plants as I am getting this season either, they are all huge.

I heard so much about the topsy turvey that I wanted to see how tomatoes would do in one, but I refuse to spend $20 for a plastic bag! When our local newspaper editor wrote about his attempts at growing this way I decided to challenge him. My no cost topsy verses his fancy container. Here's mine with almost a month's growth. It ain't purty, by HEY! it seems to work!

Gessieviolet: I noticed with my topsys and revolutionary planters the branches on the tomato plants wanted to grow up and not down at first, they seem to have adjusted now though, one has died, I have 6 left, and one seems to be close to hitting the ground already, I noticed that yours is doing the same. I'm watering mine twice a day though when it doesn't rain, lately, I've been getting lots of rain here.

Nice looking plants! Stalks look strong. You pruned it perfectly. What kind is it?
Ray, they're Better Boy.
Looking good.

That a way !!!!!!!!
If you are using Instagardens fertilizer, that may explain all the lush growth and early season take off.
Nope, just a strip of 10-10-10 and they are even planted in used potting mix.
EEEEEKKKKKK!!! Used potting mix??? Didn't you know you can't do that?? Geezzz, the nerve of some people. You should throw out all those old bushy plants and old grow mix and start all over again with new grow mix. :-)
Not me!! I'm not know as "cheap" for noth'in. I figure instructions are to be ignored until something doesn't work, then I MIGHT read them and sometimes I even follow them. BTW these old bushy plants have begun setting fruit, with bloom stalks coming from the middle of some of the leaf stems!! You have got me wondering what would happen if I really did use instagardens fertilizer though. Ain't gardening fun?
gessie violet: I know what would happen already, you'd be feeling like you entered the Jack and the beanstalks' back yard of gardening. I had no idea tomato plants could grow this tall this fast. Of course, there has to be some way of mixing it and using it other than in 2 gallon watering cans too, I'm filling those 2 - 2 gallon watering cans up three times each and when I water with Bob's fertilizer and they are not light either. I've been fertilizing every other day, can you imagine if I was doing it every day, you could call me Ms Muscle and my plants would look like Jack and the beanstalks, especially with all this rain coming down in between.
