Wow, what a Mother's day gift, what should I look for?

One of my daughters gave me round trip airfare to Hawaii. I have a sister and niece who live there so I just needed the money to fly. I have never been there. Any particular ideas on what flowers to look at? I am going to the main island, to Hawi, about 30 miles north of the Kona airport? I am so excited.

Flying into Kona looked like we were landing on the moon! So different from Maui. Everything was beautiful, ginger, brugs, bird of paradise, etc. My favorite was the bananas and the bouganvilla. We took a day and drove completely around the island, and it varies quite a bit from east to west.

I'm going to look up the drive thru gardens we went to and post it for you.

How exciting for you !!! We were quite taken with a banyan tree on Maui that covered quite a bit of area. But, everything is enjoyable. Have a great trip!

Flowers in Hawaii don't hide from strangers. You will notice them. Have a great time. We were there in '84 and stayed about half way between Hilo and Kona at a golf course. It's all beautiful! Even the lava flows.

I use to live on the Big Island. Be sure to explore as much of it as possible - it has the most widely varied terrain of the entire chain.
Will you be staying up by the Puako/Mauna Lani area or Waikoloa?
Take the saddle road between Mauna Kea & Mauna Loa to go to the Hilo side.
Try to get to the Black Sand beach - it's just weird, but a definite must do!
Also - go up from the Kona airport & head north when you get to the Mamalahoa hwy - great views & very pretty the further you go.
There are lots of things to see & do - you will enjoy your trip for certain!

Aloha Hoya is a hoya nursery on the Big Island. It appears to be quite a nursery. They also post here on DG in the Hoya forum. Its a place I would like to see, and maybe you would enjoy, too.
