grapes in a container?

Is it feasible to grow grapes in a large container? Obviously it would need a trellis or other thing to grow up onto. Thanks for any comments!

Hi Lise, I had wondered the same thing but after doing some research, I decided it wouldn't work well in my garden. I just wanted to have some grapes to eat but according to the link below it doesn't sound like container grown grapes produce much at all. I'd love to hear from someone that's actually tried though.

Thanks for that. You're right, it doesn't sound too promising, although the article never actually gave a reason. I'd feel more satisfied if they just said why.

I'm just observing that my container plants are mostly doing a lot better than my non-container plants. Probably a soil/drainage issue and the fact that I haven't done enough to amend the stuff in the backyard yet. Maybe it will improve as I keep working at it. (But my grape plant is on order NOW...lol).

I'm glad you took the plunge and bought anyway. I hope it works out for you. Even if it doesn't produce a lot of grapes, it's still a nice looking plant.
