My 2009 Pacific Calla's are starting to bloom. First up was Red Alert, he was nice and wet after a rain shower.

Oh your so lucky bloomheaven !
mine are just starting to sprout

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

The ones we got last year died over winter. Bulbs were all mush.

Thomasville, GA(Zone 8a)

The ones I got from last year are just starting to come through. I hope they all will be ok. I will be watching this thread to see how every one is doing. Elaine

Dandridge, TN(Zone 6a)

Pretty! Lucky you- mine aren't up yet.

Country Gardens, did you leave them in the ground over the winter? They aren't hardy in your zone!

i have mine it pots on the back porch and i so see them popping up , i can't wait !

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Oh how beautiful, I potted mine up and put them on a heat mat for a few days and up they popped. Every single one of them. Wish I could have gotten them started a bit earlier but I was so pressed for space that I waited a few weeks to get them started. Most of them are up about 4-6 inches and going strong..

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

They were cleaned & stored where they weren't suppose to freeze, but they may have.

Peachtree City, GA(Zone 7b)

bloomheaven, thanks for the thread. Great idea!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am here. LOL
Alot of family issues going on right now, but I will be back to post pictures of the last 3 years of Calla coop progress.

All grown in ground, all look great!

chris

Dandridge, TN(Zone 6a)

Ouch. I stored a lot of pots (a LOT of pots) somewhere I thought they wouldn't freeze either, but they must have. Every time I emptied out a pot to find a mushy bulb I'd think.... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
LOL

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

I wasn't thrilled with the flowers anyhow. Only put out a few blooms & quit. People didn't want them either. I guess that's why we experiment.

I have several that are blooming. The ones that are in partial shade are slower to come through but the leaves are beautiful. Good luck everyone with yours. These are all from one of the coops. Elaine

mine are doing pretty good but we have a racoon , that keeps digging in my pots on the back porch grrrrrr. he doesn't eat them (thank goodness ) but he dumps them on the porch :( and i put them back in . uhg. next year we are getting a dog for sure. !

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Well here is my first Calla Lily, I have it marked as Parfait.

Pretty!
Taynors, I heard that 'coons don't like the smell of ammonia, I went out every evening and sprayed Windex on our garbage cans, that seemed to work- you might want to give it a try.
My Red Alert was the first to bloom, here's a photo although the color isn't accurate. It was sort of a dark orange/ raw meat color at first but I noticed yesterday it seems to have turned a nicer red.

Thumbnail by lakesidecallas

thanks good to know on the windex .
I will try it
here is some pics of what i got so far
these are the ones the raccoon got too

this one is the one that is going strong

Wow, they all look pretty good!
I wonder why the raccoon is dumping the pots? Doesn't seem like it would be food-like or anything.
Here we have the world's largest collection of toads. They are everywhere! I'll look over at a pot and see little eyes blinking at me. Or I'll pick up a pot and one will jump up out of the soil.

i have no idea either
with all the rain we are having , i can't spray or do any hot pepper :(
here is his pic
i caught him in my Kabota, digging around ? for what ? i have no idea ?

LOL who knows?
Maybe it is a female looking for stuff to make a nest with?

Hey, my Red Alert is getting redder and prettier by the day. I took photos today but haven't downloaded them. Wish my others would bloom!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Mine is changing also, the color is deepening. Still my only bloom but I really can't complain as all but four of them are still in small pots waiting to be planted. The four that are planted were only put in last week. The ones that are still waiting will be going in a new bed around a new water feature. The water feature was finished last night so now as soon as it stops raining I will get the bed in. They should all be planted by early next week. It has been rainy and cooler this spring also right now it is raining again for the second day and only 58 outside. Seems we have two or three days of cool and raining then two or three days of warm and humid. Not at all our normal weather. Generally Mothers Day is my frost free date. I can plant anything I want outside and don't have to worry, not this year. A week after I was outside moving plants into the garage and covering the ones that couldn't be moved. Really looking forward to watching these grow as the summer comes in. Thanks for the great Co-op.

Just wanted to ask a quick question, are these suppose to be in shade or full sun or partial sun. We have all growing but 2 are blooming , I'll try to post the pictures tomorrow.

They would probably be full sun in your area but need a little shade in hotter areas. If the bulbs get too hot, they can either rot (sounds crazy but it's true!) or simply refuse to grow.

Your photos are great, I'm jealous! We had several days of rain and now it will be sunny and hot, hopefully they'll start to bloom now!

Here are some pictures to show size of plants growing with each year in ground.

The pictures are not in the best light, but they will show the size of plant. They look way better in person. ^_^

Great pictures Chris! You must have some good soil- giant plants! You really have a beautiful yard.
Are you sure that's Green Goddess? None of mine have spots on the leaves.

Here's my Red Alert, with Mango on the left and a Scadoxus multiflorus (Blood Lily) on the right.

Here's a closeup of Red Alert. It keeps getting redder and redder every day, I didn't like how it looked at the beginning but now it's great.

Thanks, I had alot of fun building my yard. Yes, to the good soil. When I tried to dig in the Georgia clay 9 years ago, it bent my pick-axe. Since then, I kill grass and dump soil right on top.

Hmmm, nope, not sure if it is green goddess. I could have "packed" my own order wrong, or they could have been the couple of bulbs that were left over.

There is only 1 other place that I planted new Calla this year. I will see if GG is down by the Giant White. I thought there was a greenish flower on those clumps by the capt prado, I will take another picture in better sunlight.

I love that Red Alert, I will have to find a spot for next year.

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

I have a couple that have wanta-be-flowers leaves on them. LOL I have pictures, but no time to post.

Mine are all coming out so beautifully.

=^..^=

Dandridge, TN(Zone 6a)

Wow, that's amazing that you have turned your yard into something so pretty. Maybe there is hope for us, we sort of just gave up! We have clay and shale rock.

Did you ever find that extra Red Alert?

Susan, I'm dying to see yours, you always have such great photos too!

Peachtree City, GA(Zone 7b)

The disapearing Red Alert was never found. Maybe I really did count it wrong coming in. I just assumed that I could count to 13 correctly.

There was so much family crisis stuff that was starting to happen right when I was shipping the Calla, anything was possible. Thank God that I make sure I have a backup person. My neighbor came over to help pack those bulbs or this could have been a mess.

We had 2 major illnesses, 1 minor (me..bells palsey), 1 broken bone, a concussion and a very unexpected death, (at my house) all this, 5 days before my sons wedding. With me catering the rehearsal dinner at my house for 75 people.

This was a couple of really crazy months.

This is the flower that made me think it was Green Goddess. I will wait for another flower to see what happens.
I do have a couple of bulbs down by the Giant white that dont have spots, no flowers yet though.

Chris, sounds like you are in need of a vacation. You never know when all hell will break lose.
I have a second small bloom on my Parfait and new flower coming this one is on my Crystal Blush.
Question I have the White Aethiopica for my water feature. How big should I let it get before I can put it in the water. It is behind some of the other callas and is just starting to show tips. Can that be put in the pond now or do I have to wait till it is bigger?

love all the pics Chris
i have one pot that the raccoon never touched. Im hoping i get some flowers soon
I m so new to callas i just don't know what to expect. :)
keep the pics coming , they sure are pretty
