My daughter lives in Portland, and would like to plant a couple of fruit trees in her yard. Where is the best place to purchase fruit trees in the Portland area, and what varieties would you recommend? Thanks for your help!
Best place to buy fruit trees in Portland?
I don't know about the best trees for her particular yard, but a bit south of PDX is a place called Gardenworld. It is somewhat overwhelming in terms of the variety of trees, but their prices seem reasonable and the staff is helpful.

A good mailorder source of trees is www.arborday.org This is a great organization, but you would of course be buying smaller trees to avoid large shipping costs.

Again not in Portland but about 45 min north in Woodland is Tsugawas nursery. They had the best price for fruit trees. Many places I talked to wanted the same price or more for 1" caliper trees. At Tsugawas I got a nice healthy plum tree 1 1/4" caliper for cheaper. The tree looks great and is now full of leaves.
I 2nd the motion for Tsugawa.
... and they guarantee their plants for a year!
great people, great selection ...been shopping there since 1990
Thanks so much for your recommendations MichaelZ, DBower, and merrydancer. I really appreciate it. We'll check out both places. :)
