Hi all, its that time of year again and I am looking for some nice herb plants. I am looking for basil, orregano, thyme, chocolate mint and chocolate basil. If there are any interested parties out there, please contact me ASAP and we will work out a trade. I did real well last year in my trades and look forward to doing it again. Size of baskets depends on size of trades. Here is a picture of some of the baskets made last year.
Let me know if you are interested. It is frist come first served. I made 24 baskets last year but I am going to have to limit them this year due to the broken wrist I suffered last October.

Pine needle baskets for trade of herb plants
Hey everyone, arent there any traders out there that want to take part in this barter trader. Baskets for plants. Still waiting.
Your baskets are beutiful. They make me sorry I don't have anything to trade =)
thank you. It is very rewarding to be able to make them and trade with them. I don't have enough plants to trade with either so this is my bartering chip so to speak. Being from Reno you should know about chips. I used to be a keno writer and runner at one time in my life. We used to live in Vegas and I worked at the Mint. That should tell you how long ago that was. Hehe.I hated it there.
Lol. I finished my degree at UNLV. Funny, I've lived in Nevada for ages and never get the urge to gamble anything. I liked Vegas but Reno is home.
Good for you. I hated the whole gambling thing but it was a living working at the mint. What an insane world the world of gambling is. So glad I never got sucked into it.
I hear you on that. My husband worked security for the Eldo and some of the other Boyd properties. I guess the statistics of it just don't work for me. That and I work way too hard for my money to give it to someone else ;)
yes I have to agree with you there and my ex-husband worked security for the Golden Nugget. His father and stepmother lived in Vegas so that is why we moved there to begin with. He was suppose to set him up in a landscaping business but that never happened as well as the marriage. Long story made short. We got out of Vegas and moved back to CA where we finnaly split up.
Your baskets are beautiful!
I have some mints and oregano I could trade. No chocolate mint, but I have peppermint, spearmint, and applemint. Lots of other perennial herbs as well, Marjoram, angelica, etc.
Let me know.
Patricia
That would be great herbspirit, I would love the peppermint and applemint and any other herbs you would like to share with me. Oregano would be great along with thyme if you have that. Basil but I think you need to grow that from seed, right?
Let me know what style basket you like and as soon as I get caught up I will start yours.
Yours is my fourth request and they take about a week to complete depending on size and or lids.
Jan
herbspirit, if you are sure you want to do the trade I will close this section of the herb for basket trade. let me know for sure. I have to really pace myself this year as my wrist was broken last year and I'm not able to make as many as I did then.
thanks so much
jan
I don't have Basil as that is an annual for me. My thyme died over the winter, so I adon't have that to trade
I'll be happy to trade the mints and oregano. Are you looking primarily for culinary herbs? I have both culinary and medicinals.
Patricia
I like both. I love the medicinal for fragrance but can't really use the medicinal qualities due to liver disease. I have to be very careful about that.
Thanks
Jan
Hi...I have rosemary, basil, thyme, chives, oregano, sage. Do any interest you for trade?
Peg
Right at this moment I am kind of at a standstill till I get past this horrible infections from tha Aquarium. I posted some picture of myself on the Healthy living forum.
I would really love the basil, oregano, thyme and rosemary. If you don't mind waiting for your basket I will get to it as soon as I am better. I am a real mess just now. My face is so swollen that my eyes are almost swollen shut.
I petted some of the Marine critters in the open tanks at the aquarium and got some sort of bacterial infection into my system. Ewwww... its painful
I'm really sorry to hear about your infection. You would think they would warn people not to touch the critters. Take care of yourself I can certainly wait for you to get better to get a basket. Do you want the herbs now or later?
Peg
The stingray and little sharks were in the petting tank for everyone to touch and feel so I did. Wish I hadn't though.
You can send them when ever it is easiest for you. My garden is getting seeded and my strawberries are blooming like crazy so if you feel okay about sending them now that would be great but truely its up to you.
Jan
Jan,
I see you are having trouble sleeping too. I hope the pain lets up so you can get some rest.
I can't sleep either. My husband is disabled and wakes me up when he needs the bathroom and I have a problem going back to sleep.
I'll send the herb plants this week so you can include them in your garden. I'm in no hurry for the basket so take your time. Just make sure you get well.
Peg
Thank you Peg, yes, the constant itching and swelling leaves me without a good nights sleep. I wake up the minute I go to scratch my face as the pain is just as bad as the itch.
Can't wait for this to subside. Its making me crazy.
Gourdbeader, I just saw your post. I'm a herb lover. I'm sorry about your allergic reaction. What a strange thing to happen. Your baskets are really beautiful. Do you frequent Dave's basket forum? I could have made baskets galore with the materials from my yard in Orlando, alas I didn't have the skill. I see by your DG name that you are interested in gourds as well. I've never seen beaded gourds. I hope you are feeling better.
Pamgarden, this is one of my beaded gourds. I haven't posted in basketweaving lately but I used to post there quite a bit. I have so many things that I have going that it is hard to stay focussed on one particular thing. My DSH kids me all the time about, well, what are kind of project are you going to start this week. I am busy making baskets for trades just now but I have got to get busy on my current gourd called Buffalo of the Plains. I will show you a pic of that one next
Gourd, You are incredibly talented. I love how the gourds inspire different themes. They are all wonderful, but the buffalo is particularly spectacular. Pam
I am in awe of your work! The baskets are so lovely and those gourds are stunning. Did you get any takers for trades? I'm so tempted but I'd worry about plants arriving alive in hot weather.
Gourd, Amazing! Did you say what kind of gourds those are? Some years ago at Longwood Garden they had a beautiful pergola about 10' tall covered with what I believe were called callabash gourds. The foliage was so green and dense that when you walked underneath the pergola, it was dark and cool, and the giant gourds hung down from the ceiling of the pergola on long string like stems. It was totally magical. I wish I had a picture and could replicate that scene. Do you grow your own gourds? I'd love to see some pictures of your garden. Please say how you achieve your art. It's not obvious to me how you get the figures built up and the texture and the colors are glorious. Pam
Thank you Pam,
No I tried growing them one year and the vines took over the whole back yard and I only got 4 gourds worth saving so now I buy them from a gourd farm in Newark, Ohio

The buffalo gourd had a circumfrence of 42 " . Its huge.
Jan
Someone directed me to this thread and I just have to say your talent is Amazing!!!
Thank you marie.
I am in the process of starting a tutorial on gourd beading. I will consist of 6 ten minute classes. I will have it on you tube. It will be under Gourd Beading by Jan.
When I get it all together I will let you know so if you are interested in learning how and have the time and patience it takes you can watch and learn and maybe even make one.
The Buffalo of the Plains that you saw is a life time goal. I never plan on making another one quite so large. It is the largest one so far. I should say it is the largest one I will ever make. I have made several others but they usually sell before I even complete them. The African Rose gourd that took me 2 1/2 years to complete I have given to my Son-in-law. I was offered $20,000 for it. It was very difficult to turn that down but this son in law is the best of three. I have three daughters and he is the most wonderful father and husband of them all.
This is the African Rose gourd
The elephant is amazing, the textures, bright eyes, the tusks, so real and lifelike and the surrounding animals and African vistas are beautiful. Time, I have, but patience, I don't know. I love that you gave your $20,000 gourd as a gift to your son in law. I'll be hoping you complete your information segments for you tube, so we can see how you do it. They had some fantastic gourds on the internet site. Your pieces must win many prizes.
You are an awesome mom-in-law. He is so blessed!! I will definietly watch and will share with a friend of mine who is talented too. I am lucky to draw a stick figure and not have to fix it.
The whole african rose gourd is amazing. I will have to show my 7 yr old who has consistently asked me since he was 3 when are we going to Africa ( prounounced Afreekah by him) I know he will be as amazed as I am by it.
I have lots of little basil seedlings of several kinds and I live in Oregon, too. Could probably ship them up to you in one day. I also have some sweet marjoram seedlings. The basils are: Sweet, lemon (Mrs. Burns) and Genovese and one called Baja. The seeds came from our own herb nursery near Alsea.
I just love your baskets and your gourd paintings. I especially like the basket with tiny shells around the lid.
How are you feeling by now? That was a horrible thing that happened to you at the aquarium. Must remember that when we visit next time.
Let me know about the trade and thank you. You are an amazing artist.
Oh--I think I forgot to say that I will send you All of the seedlings mentioned for a basket.
Hi beebonnet, Thank you for asking regarding my skin reaction. It was, fortunately not from the aquarium, as we so thought before. All the lab work and blood cultures determined that it was not bacterial from the aquairum or viral from any thing else. So, we haven't a clue what caused it but I am thinking that it could be from the pine needles and that I may have developed an allergy to pine needles. unfortunately for me, I am not going to stop making baskets because of that, however, my wrists are giving me such grief that I am having to take it slower then usual. I would be happy to make you a basket but it may take longer then my usual week. I have two baskets ahead of you but you can send now and if you are patient you will have a basket in about 3 weeks. Thank you for the offer and I would love the herbs, especially the basils.
Also, I might mention, the gourds are not painted. Those are all beads applied one bead at a time. Here is a close up of one that I am working on now.
Thank you . Let me know if you can wait for your basket.
Jan
Oh, My gosh, Jan. i didn't understand about the gourds being beaded. Now I really am in awe of your beautiful work.
You didn't get into some poison oak, did you? Many years ago, poison oak got into m y mothers blood stream and she broke out all over her body. It was horrible for her for about 2 weeks.
I will send you the basil on Monday morning. We have been really busy lately, so I didn't get back to DG until this morning. Please D Mail me your address. Thanks
Sue
I don't care if it takes three months, Jan. I am just so pleased to have one of your lovely baskets.
No, it wasn't poison oak as I haven't been anywhere else but my home. It was only on my face and up my nose and in my eyes. After blood cultures, lab work, and all the Dr's visits, we still haven't a clue as to what it was. I would think that if it was the pine needles it would've been on my hands too. So, guess we will never know until it happens again.
Okay with the basil. I don't know how much you plan on sending but this is what these were the lilies that the last trader sent and this is the basket she got.
Fantastic! My husband is allergic to pine and spruce if he gets poked by the needles or gets sap on him. He wears long sleeves and gloves if he is going to be handling them. Unless he forgets.
