This epi is getting hugeeee.
My monster E. strictum with bunch of buds
That looks identical to my E. hookeri: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/2100/

This site (scroll down to find hookeri): http://www.ecology.org/orchids/index5.html#hookeri says E. hookeri & E. strictum are one and the same, with strictum being a synonym. It says the flowers have a slight fragrance but I've never detected any scent from the blooms on my plant, so I tend to wonder if they are identical.
What do you feed yours? Mine is in deep shade under a tree in the backyard and it only gets buds sporadically, in the fall. It could probably use more light and fertilizer.
Lin, it's same. I think your plant needs more light, I feed bloom booster during growing season.

Thanks! Does your plant get any direct sun? I'm going to be feeding plants this week and will give it a good shot of the bloom booster stuff.
You see there are some red branches, direct Western P.M sun for about 2 hours or so but you need to do it gradually so it wont burn.
Ok, I'm going to move mine. Years ago I had it in a more filtered sun location and it got red foliage like yours and someone told me it shouldn't get any direct sun, so I moved it to a corner of the backyard under a tree. My small noid Epi's on the pool deck get filtered afternoon sun through the screen and some have gotten too much sun. They would probably fare better if they got more water in these dry conditions we've been having. It sure doesn't take much to fry plants in the Florida sun when we are so dry.
Certainly don't want to leave them in full sun, it will fry them for sure but it seems to help mine set more blooms by giving some direct sun.
Thanks so much for the advice ... I am going to give them a little more filtered light and a wee bit more sun to see what happens! You get even hotter, more intense sun there on the gulf coast than I do here in Daytona Beach and your plant is amazing!
It looks Gorgeous!
Mine is still under the tree in the backyard. It's been growing a lot and has some long/tall branches but I really think it needs more light to set buds/blooms. I just went out and pushed, pulled and shoved it out of the deep shade so it can get more light. I'm thinking about having my husband move it to the front yard for me. It would get filtered morning sun in the front of the house and there's a tall palm tree I'd like it to climb.
Lin, they should look really pretty climbing a tree. Your plant looks like could use more sun too.
Thanks Sunshine ... It has been located in dense shade for years, I was afraid the sun would fry it. Last year my Epi. oxypetalum got sunburned from too much sun. It was located in the screened pool enclosure on the west side of the house and the afternoon sun was just too intense for it I guess, even though it's filtered by the screen.
