Cats are getting eaten!

Gibsonton, FL(Zone 10a)

Question:
I have two Passiflora plants loaded with Gulf Fritillaries. It seems once the cats get large enough they disappear. I was thinking they were out forming their crystalis. That was until I saw a half eaten cat on a leaf. :(
I took what I had and covered up both of my plants with the black fabric for weed control. I put it around the plants with enough room for the cats to move about. I hope the type of material and being black in Florida sun will not be a poor choice.

Is this good enough or should I select something else to conceal/protect the cats?

Thanks in advance

Thanks I will try that and see. Do ants or lizards attack/eat cats? I see a bunch of ants on my Passiflora Incarnata now since the flowers are blooming on it.

I don't recommending shooting the wildlife, its disturbing a delicate balance in nature and quite frankly cruel. The lizards are eating mosquitos and other problem insects. We have lost most of our coveted Texas's Horned Toads because of people putting down ant killer which does not discriminate, it killed off the red ants which are a food source for the toads. No ants, no toads, Sad Texans!

green anoles are native the brown cuban anoles are not they eat our native green lizard here is a this came from a web site
The brown anole is thought to be responsible for a dramatic decline of previously stable urban and rural populations of the green anole, the only anole native to the United States. Green anoles often undergo a habitat shift and disappear within a few years after brown anole arrival. The two species are similar in size and overlap considerably in their diets, suggesting dietary resource competition. Predation on green anole hatchlings has also been demonstrated, suggesting that an ecological double-whammy termed "intra-guild predation" (competitors that also eat each other) might better describe the interaction.

i am trying to get back our native lizard.

The horned toad in Texas hasn't JUST declined because of pesticide use. Loss of habitat caused by human development of habitat areas and the introduction of the nonnative fire ant (also leading to the decline of the red ant)played a big part in that also. It's a shame about the harm caused by the introduced species! Now they have a "crazy ant" which was somehow introduced into the Houston area and is spreading from there. God only knows what harm it will cause!
