solar pumps

Milford, CT(Zone 6a)

I am putting a small 30-40 gallon pond in my front yard inside a berm under a little footbridge.. I have been looking at solar fountains and pumps but have no experience with them. are they a good buy for getting air into a small pond (puddle) or do they peter out too quick like the lawn lights. either as a toy, or a more ecpensive one with a rechargeable battery....

this is cute.

You definitely need the ones with the rechargable batteries if you are planning on goldfish. I've used several different types, they DO start to die after a long summer, so don't spend too much on one. I've found the ones with the separate solar panel to last longer than the others.
Are you looking for air or for water movement?

I just want to keep the pond aerated.and i am pretty sure I will be adding water often in the summer.. I was originally trying to find a cordless air pump and put a bubble up filter in there, the solar water pumps seem too expensive unless thy can last 2-3 years. mot interested in throwing a lilly, and maybe a couple comets in the small pond.. just going to borrow them from the big pond in the back. there just seems to be a simple way to keep the water stirred up, just can't think of one.
