The storm and my baby

Well, everyone remembers the tomato plant in the 5 gallon bucket, my baby? Well, we got a rain storm today, I looked out to see how my plants were faring and lo and behold here lies my tomato on the ground bucket and all. I felt my heart jump up into my throat. Had to get my daughter's help to lift it and the 5 gallon buckets it was in upright. Surveyed the damaged, just a few broken limbs, trimmed some of the limbs but don't know if the pallot rotting from all the rain caused it or what, so I wiggled it across the lawn and it is now on the ground propped up against the picnic bench. My daughter then yells from the front of the house and says, "you'd better be glad you did'nt park your car on the other side of the drive way and lo and behold this big tree from the neighbors yard fell and guess where it landed? Right on the baby crape myrtle tree I planted a few weeks ago and have been nursing. (sniffles). My friend asked, being a male right? "How many tomatoes were on the tomato plant"? Like that makes a difference? I raised that one from seed. Of course, I'm wondering if that 5 ft tomato cage had anything to do with this too? It's outgrowing that badboy already too.

Bummer. I was just actually coming to see if anyone else in FL is having such a drought. I know this is self contained boxes, but mine are requring more water than usual and anything in the ground is parched. A good argument for self contained. Anyway, its good to know rain is at least in the neighborhood.

Im finally getting some Aunt Gerdies Gold. The plant grew mamoth leaves but never seemed to want to set fruit. Glad it changed its mind.

Garden Glory: I think it will be ok, as the stem is not broken, it's about half as large as my arm. I'm getting concerned though, as with rain comes growth and my 30 cukes in the bloommaster seem to be reaching over to try and strangle the tomatoes in my topsy turvys. (groan). Gotta watch them closely, had to move the tomatoes around, as they are all in cages or staked up along with the peppers and eggplants. You can have some of my water if you want it> LOL We got about a weeks worth of rain to look forward to this week.

Here is my smashed crape myrtle tree under the befelled tree in my driveway: Now where is GG and her infamous chainsaw when you need her? LOL I cannot lift the tree, neither can my daughter and I, it broke off half way up and was taller than my house.
