Can I prevent potato beetles from eating my eggplant?
Of course, as long as you are willing to use insecticides. Organic; Pyrethrin. Traditional; Bug B Gone, Sevin
Thank you. I spray Sevin on them sometimes when I see them-which is everyday! But other times I just squish them with a stick. I am surprised they are out so early. I planted my garden 3 wks ago and they appeared almost immediately! I grew eggplant last year and never saw one!
I have been very successful by squishing potato bugs as soon as I see them. I also look under the leaves to squish the eggs. If you do this often enough and early enough you should be able to eradicate the problem. If you need a little more help there is a Bt product made just for potato bugs. I only kills the larva so you still have to dispatch the adults. Many people think hand squishing is yucky. Just try to get beyond that. Remember, it all washes off. Good luck.
You could move to England; there are no Colorado Potato Beetles there! (At least there were none when I was growing up there) - There was a huge reward for anyone who turned in one of the striped beasts!
