Orioles gone crazy

Norman, OK

Just this week I've had a pair of very shy Baltimore Orioles visiting my feeder. If they even get a glimpse of you, they are gone. Yesterday afternoon I had two males come up on the patio. They saw their reflections in the windows and sat around for 30 minutes whistling and sparring with their images in the windows. I had two carpenters working in the kitchen and the birds seemed oblivious to them.

One was the most brilliant dark orange I've ever seen. He looks fake. The other was more yellow. Looks like I have two pair visiting the feeder now.

Wow Red those are excellent shots. They are such gorgeous birds!

Is that a male and female? I saw a pair in my yard last year (only time to ever see this bird) and they were acting weird, flying at each other, jumping and diving and rolling. I just figured it was a paie and mating behavir. Anyway, they were colored like these two.
Georgeous birds!!

These are both males, Birdie. The females are not as brightly colored and don't have the black head. Here is a pic of a female so you can compare.

well then, what I observed last year was then two males apparently duking it out!!

I remember the first time I saw one. I could not believe how vivid orange and beautiful they are. We have some in the yard also and my hubby says they are almost as noisy as the bluejays. Now that I do not believe. LOLOL

Male #2 was back up on the patio yesterday and I was able to get more close-up shots.

Male #1 seems to be the dominant bird on the feeder. When he is there, he runs off any others. I've started putting some fruit on a tray feeder that is hung underneath the Oriole feeder to allow the females to eat while he is there.

One of the females took a grape to a more private dining area.

Weather is heating up and so are the birds. Pic of one of the males on a teakwood patio bench.

Please be careful with the grape jelly feeders. Do not take the little wire off the middle! I had no idea that I would find a female inside the jar looking out. I rinsed her off with warm water and still trying to nurse her back to health. She is eating sugar water out of an eyedropper and on heating pad. She can now stand which she would not do yesterday. She is very alert and looking around. I'm hoping she will join her mate today.
