Your Brug is from the species Brugmansia suaveolens or has a lot of suaveoelens in it, very short tendrils. One of the features of a suaveolens is that the flowers tend to collapse during the day mainly due to loss of water — more water evaporates than the plant can take up. The flowers become more turgid at night and so open up all the way.

I am starting to wonder if I will ever see blooms on mine...here we are looking at our 3rd week of cool, overcast or rainy days. My brugs may start wishing they had never come here! Whereabouts is Coushatta, RoseGirl?

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

My brugs would love your weather! Hot and dry.. just washed off spider mites.. OUTSIDE...they are usually a winter inside problem because of the dry heat.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 8a)

hummm, well i guess I don't know them as well as I thought I did. I...would like to be hot and dry! at least for a few days.

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

when it is too hot and dry their growth is stunted... and very slow... I have to keep moving them to keep them in the shade.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 8a)

what is their fav? hot and wet? warm and dry? no, they like a lot of moisture, don't they? where are they indegenous to? (sorry, i can't spell) Brazil?

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

sunny, cool and wet.. how about that for a combination!

they do well with moderately hot and wet.. humidity is the key and a moderate amount of sun or good light it seems.... I just have way too much sun and not enough humidity... well today.. I have enough humidity it seems.. right now 26% and for us that is HIGH.. we usually have about 5 or 6 % ...

Greensboro, NC(Zone 8a)

what is 'cool' ... 70s? Maybe mine will be happier when I move back to NC. It has always been too dry out here for me.

AR dry???? are you kidding? Try Odessa.. then you will find out what dry means. LOL I just went over my mountain magic and found a total of 5 buds.. at this time of year.. can you cay TLC.... that plant is being absolutely babied to make sure she blooms.... lost my first buds on one plant this year and her first bud was deformed. I am so excited to have blooms this early.

Coushatta,is about a hour south of Shreveport.

I have grown this one in the Sacramento Valley, CA, for years. Mine likes warm to hot days with afternoon shade, and cool nights. Humidity? We don't know what that is here in the Sac. Valley. It prefers a moist soil, but isn't really that picky waterwise. It loves fertilizer. It blooms more each year, even when cut or frozen back in the winter. Only pest problems are snails, when the plants are short, and spider mites when the plants are in an enclosed space with little air movement and very dry air. Love dem brugs.
