I am looking into trading some of my hoya cuttings and I am woundering how do you root them? I have rooted spider plants, wandering jew, and pothos by water. Didnt know if it was the same as that or what? Any info will be appreciated thanks!
How to root Hoya cuttings?
I not an expert at all but successfully rooted an assortment of Hoya cuttings this spring by using shallow bulb pots, with bottom heat and keeping them in indirect light. For soil I used a blend of potting soil and orchid mix. As this dried out quickly, I was careful to keep it damp but not soaked. I've always heard roots started in water are not as sturdy and may fail when moved to soil so didn't try water. It is not a fast process and you may want to just trade cuttings. That is what we did... Good luck.
I've tried many different rooting methods for hoyas, and they all work eventually. Hydroponic using hydroton pellets is my current favorite. That's by filling a container (usually a tall plastic cup) 1/3 with hydroton, put your cutting in, and while holding the cutting upright, fill the container the rest of the way with hydroton. Then fill the container with water, cover the cutting loosely with a clear plastic bag (to capture moisture yet provide ventilation) and keep in a warm place away from bright light. Give bottom heat if you like, but only a very little. This method generally produces roots within a week.
Good luck!!

I've had success with a number of methods. Small cuttings root nicely in a zip lock bag with just a mist of water in with them. I've rooted larger cuttings very nicely in my terrarium. I've also rooted them in glasses filled with vermiculite. Humidity seems to be the main ingredient to success.
There are many many ways to root... some betrter than others some worse and so much depends on where you live. Did you read the sticky threads at the top of the Forum Page?
