Damping off, green patches on soil.

Argyle, TX(Zone 7b)

We had alot of rain the last several weeks. The back part of my garden has green patches of mold or moss or something. I had read something about hydrogen peroxide, but not sure if I should spray with that or what I should do if anything to prevent damping off. Corn and melons mostly. Thanks in advance.

I am just speculating about the green growth. Perhaps it is algae. If so it might be producing some nitrogen. I have had a bit of green before in certain conditions and I suggest lightly tilling it in.

Moss Point, MS(Zone 8b)

My "soil" is very sandy and acidic. It gets a green tint on the surface and if it's growing anything, they're too small to see. I've read that this is indicative of too low PH and that lime is wanted to raise it to ideal levels.

Texas, damping off is only a problem with prolonged excess water. If your soil drains decently it shouldn't happen.

Thanks for the reply's.
Indy, I can't till, I have stuff planted.
Twiggy, the back part was slow draining with all of the rain. I heard that we had 7" in one day. My soil is alkaline. Mostly clay with alot composted horse manure and some kind of wood shavings.

I totally understand where you're coming from! I've all kinds of weird things coming up since all the rain, not to mention the damage from those winds!!

You can sprinkle plain dry powdered garlic (you probably have it in your pantry) or ground horticultural cornmeal on the spots to get rid of them. Once things dry out (it'll be 100º soon!) the fungus/moss/algae will go away.

Thanks, I my try that.
