GIANT Strawberry

Oceanside, CA(Zone 10a)

Well, I am growing about 15 strawberry plants and have been getting about 5-6 medium strawberries a day now. I'm not the biggest strawberry fan so they get less attention than my peppers or tomatoes. I usually just walk by and look to see any red berries....pick them real fast and move on. Yesterday, I bent down and noticed a bunch of runners overflowing off the back of the container. I rotated the container and to my shock I saw the biggest strawberry I have ever seen. I sat there and stared at it for about 5 minutes before picking it lol I guess strawberries love to be fertilized a lot. I gave one of the containers a heavy dose of 8-28-18 about 2-3 weeks ago. It seem to do the trick. I will say, I prefer the taste of the average sized ones more. I also have another giant on the plant. It's about half the size but is still green and growing.

Here's some average sized ones in comparison. It's almost as big as an average sized Bell Pepper :)

Nothing like a home grown California strawberry! Send em my way? What variety are they Ray??

Hey T! The big ones are Seascape and the average sized ones are Pretty in Pink and Chandler. I'm thinking of giving each strawberry container a heavy dose of fertilizer to see if they react as well as the Seascapes did.

Ray: I love the looks of those, every morning I have been picking between 4 -12 off the GP and EB I have planted with strawberries and giving to my daughter, or neighbors and family, whoever is close by and maybe tasting one myself. LOL

Wow, dude. What can't you grow?

I love strawberries (soft cream cheese with brown sugar...yum!) and I shall try growing them next season. I'll grow the Janice variety.

Duuuuuude! You want a list of what I have failed on growing? The list is extensive. Carrots and Radishes are supposed to be easy.....not for me. As you know, I'm trying them again. We shall see.

Ray: Nope, luck wouldn't have you having as many fantastic looking plants as you have, it's definately a green thumb and knack.
