A big thank you to all who came to the College Station roundup this year. We had a great time with lots of plants and food for all. Unfortunately I don't think anyone brought a camera this year. But if you have any questions about what plant you got or anything, just post it here!

CS Roundup - A big Thank You!!
Thanks to Kim we had a wonderful time, didn't we? I certainly did and met some of you again or for the first time. The food was sooooo gooooood!
I am excited about my new plants. Now just need some time to put them out after I figure where to plant what. Thanks to everyone who shared with me.
lovediggin/ Geneva
We too thank you, Kim, for making all the arrangements once again. It was a great RU and came off without a hitch. LOL I did not mind the cameras being missing. Please let us know how much more you need to come out even on the rental. Can you believe that I put on a jacket this evening when I unloaded the van? The north wind was blowing and the temp was in the 60's. After being in the "sauna" in Bryan, it felt cold.
It was fun. The whole trip was great...but for some reason my ankles were swollen after I got home, not to mention being tired, so I didn't get much done as far as the plants until today. Wish I'd needed a jacket. Getting tired of the constant heat and humidity.
Kim, we had a wonderful turnout and a great spread of food, flowers, friends and fun.
You did a great job!
I hope you were able to get enough money for the rental. If not, please let me know and I'll pitch in a bit more. You should never be shy about asking for people to help with that. Everyone benefits and the costs should not fall to one person. We should all divide the cost. If a person can't pay his/her share, they need to speak up and someone will put in their cost for them. We don't won't to leave anyone out, but you as the hostess need to have everyone's part paid, if not by themselves, then by the group or an individual other than the hostess. The hostess, should never be stuck holding the bag for several extra people's share.
I hope we do this again in October.
Charlene
We had a great time too! Thinkin' more that early April is lookin' REALLY good for next year.....(.temp. being considered) ! Lee & Dee
What? No pics? Missed seeing you Linda and Kim... Geneva and Willis... Sounds like you all had a great time :-)
Maybe some of you can make it to the ETRU... if so, I will see you there.
Kim, I'd said it on the other thread, but I second Charlene's motion to be sure you're covered on expenses. I know I handed you the $8 you originally mentioned and found out my son had given you a $5 too (bless him ;-)) He really did have a great time!
Lee, I agree with you on April for next year. Do we know yet when the fall one will be? I was telling Lee Saturday that I plan to be off the Friday before AND the Monday after, so I'll have to plan ahead! LOL
and also Lee, just hold me some Mullein seeds back and I'll get them at the fall swap!
AuntAnne, the walking iris is blue & white:
(and the picture doesn't really do it justice--it's really more blue) http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/15337/

The contributions came almost exactly to what we needed (a couple dollars over). So thanks again everyone.
:) Kim
Aren't they an interesting plant?!! You bet I'll have the seeds ready for you.....I meant to get your address at the RU....(guess the "ol' timer's" is settin' in)....I'll be glad to mail them to you as well!
I agree, mullein is interesting. I think it was used as some kind of medicinal herb way back...I don't know how far back, but it was brought over by many of the first settlers in America, so they must have thought highly of it. I've noticed that grasshoppers are a bit too fond of the plant sometimes in my part of Texas...they might need some encouragement to leave, in my experience.
Jumping in here to say I think that may be a Verbascum Thapsus; here it is in PF. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/176569/
Interesting plant indeed...read the comments.
Sheila, yes that's the plant we're talking about. I have had it before (obviously - lol, hence the photo of my trash can there :=) I've actually done some research on it, and had read where the Native Americans found uses for it like wicks and even toilet paper! Amazing... here's another site:

Can't find the one I'd found so interesting, but that one is pretty cool. My ex-FIL used to make something he called 'Grandpa's Salve' and the primary ingredient was Mullein, and then secondarily petroleum jelly. I don't remember what else, but I think I heard something like turpentine. Anyway, it was a REAL cure-all. Like modern day triple antibiotic ointment... on steroids! LOL It really did amazing things. I saw my ex- put a deep gash in his arm with a saw one day. He didn't have much to 'doctor' himself with, so he flushed it best he could with bottled water, then 'crammed' a bunch of Grandpa's Salve in it and then wrapped his [dirty] bandana around it. After he got home, he washed it better, then put more Grandpa's Salve and a clean gauze bandage on it. (Clearly he really needed stitches but was self-employed and we couldn't really afford health insurance.) Anyway.... 3 days later it looked like he might have SCRATCHED himself. I'm NOT lying! Amazing stuff... ( and it does say in a couple of places that this was also used to heal wounds)
Sorry to go on and on, but I just find this fascinating...
p.s. I found some seeds, Lee, but haven't tried them. They're going in the ground tomorrow! I had bought them 2 yrs. ago, but my MIL hid them from me. Now that she's no longer here, I discovered them today - yea!
Bob (Thornofyord) - please tell me the name of the tall edible plant you gave me. I know you said it had a bonus of Swiss Chard (that I remembered ;0) I love the way the other looks growing in my garden, esp. since I love plants with purple anyway... Just would love to attach its proper name to it.
Thanks again!!
~ Carole
Bob doesn't get on much. A couple of years ago he gave me a tall edible plant that had purple on its leaves, very pretty. He called it spreen, I think. Is it this: http://www.seedsofchange.com/garden_center/product_details.aspx?item_no=S10742
That's it, Ceejay! Thank you so much!
I'm addicted to DG Journal ;-)
On the Verbascum Thapsus (these things grow wild here) I have some of the dried stalks left over from last season. Does anyone want them? I have some plants, but I do not know how they will ship, but could try. Never knew anyone wanted them. I always run them over with a mower and I leave a couple for my DH. He thinks the look neat. ; )
Dana
Cajun did you post a link to the toad lilies you brought? I'm trying to figure out the name.
Linda, I want to thank you for the Woolly Ironweed, and the Clematis pitchery you sent, those are great, I hope you are happy with your Mexican Plum I sent, and thank you Pat for delivering them.
Josephine.
Dana, that's hysterical. I've been looking for those for the longest time. Glad I did find my seeds; haven't got them in the ground yet though. So yours are the soft fuzzy leaves? If so, please send me a few seeds so I can be sure I get some to come up. I do love them.
Mary Lee, I'm sorry mine don't bloom until later in the year - if I remember correctly like maybe August?? But as soon as they do, I'll be sure to post pictures. It's got me stumped too. I'm concerned I'm telling people I have something I don't! AND I collected a lot of seeds from it last year that I'd be happy to share. It DID produce seed pods and seeds just like a lily will, so I'm fairly certain it IS a lily. Funny how it grows like an Iris though, huh?
Josephine, you're welcome, just glad I was able to send those with Pat. The Mexican Plum you sent is just great! There's several large ones at the university in S.A. and I've always wanted them because those look so nice. I used to pick little plums off them when I had classes there.
Great, I hope it does well for you.
Josephine.
Cajun, whenever it blooms is fine. We'll figure out this mystery some day.
lol thanks, Mary Lee!
BTW my son really enjoyed talking to your daughter.
Bless his heart, I think he was so sweet to go with me (part of my Mother's Day gift) so I was afraid he would be really bored. Thanks to your daughter, he wasn't ;-))
I want to thank MarilynTx for the lovely fern, and Cajun2 for the 4 o'clock plant....they were lovely....as was the precious messenger, Smockette. I hope our paths will personally cross soon. Hugs.

Hi Boys and Girls and Guys and Gals. No pics of the RU? That's a shame. Sorry I couldn't be with all of you but the fates had other ideas. On Friday, May 8 (?), I checked into the hospital here in Katy w/what turned out to be a deadly case of pneumonia. Sick, sick, sick. Was in there for 6 days and came home and am trying my best to get back on my feet, literally. I'm still on oxygen 24/7 and have home health care coming every other day. Lots of meds - lots, lots, lots....trying to get my oxygen levels, etc. back on track. Not up to much but wanted you all to know that everything is as good as possible. My husband, Jim, is my angel along w/our kids. Without them everything would be impossible. Will be posting when I can and am very interested in what is going on.
Ann
Oh boy. I'm really sorry. I have been in your shoes. Spent a week in a hospital with pneumonia at the ripe old age of 19. Got to do the oxygen thing too. Awful stuff. My advice: get lots of sleep and don't push yourself. Let your family pamper you as much as they will. Trying to do things without a good oxygen supply is a really really bad idea.
Thanks, Silver. There's not much you can do when you have no strength and no appetite and no motivation. My family has been wonderful. I am full of TV (YUK!), don't feel like reading and really need to be up and around from the sun porch to the WC occasionally. Otherwise, life goes on around me and I don't really care.
Ann
Sorry to hear that Ann...I had the same situation back in 2004...no fun, but behave, and follow instructions and this too shall pass...I know it doesn't seem like it, but it will. Hugs.
