more on landscape fabric

Delaware, OH

I have used landscape fabric (fabric mulch) in the vege garden for several years, replacing it each year. The challenge in putting it down is finding a tool that works easily to cut it! I have used a basic straight edge blade and scissors in the past, but neither is easy and I have hand problems by the time it's done. Any suggestions?

Have you tried a rotary cutter (like used on fabric) to cut it? Just place a board under the frabric and roll the wheel across it. They are available at fabric centers and large corporate stores with a location near you. Claud.

I use a boxcutter and do not have any problems? Are you referring to the heavy plastic professional plastic weed cover or the Dupont fabric weed cloth. Either way they cut easy with the razor on bare ground?

I just use a scissor. I lay the fabric on the ground folded in half lengthwise, because my paths are only 18" and the fabric is 36", and then run the blade of the scissor down the fold. It helps if someone else is there to keep it taut.

The landscaping fabric I'm using this year, mentioned in my thread, cuts real easy. Once you make the first 'cut', you can just leave your scissors open and it will glide across the fabric to the other side. Just like you can do sometimes with gift wrapping paper. .....I'll try to find out who makes the fabric I'm using.
