Jack in the pulpit blooming

Shenandoah Valley, VA

I was so thrilled to see that this Jack in the pulpit not only made it through the winter but was blooming.

Wood poppies and mayapples. I'm finding that many wildflowers aren't harmed by the juglone from black walnut trees. These are all from a small planting I've done under a black walnut and are thriving.

I saw this little one growing in the woods and thought it was neat.

This one I planted in a wet area in my yard is really growing. It had berries last year but something ate them.

Wow, Claypa. That's a nice big clump you have there.

I was surprised it's doing so well. It gets part sun in a wet area. In swamps they can get about three feet tall. Maybe I can try dividing it this fall, but remembering to do it is the hard part. I'll try again to get the seeds before the squirrels or whoever it was gets 'em again.

I've been so tickled with how well my little wildflower garden is doing under the black walnut. Is that a fringe cup growing next to yours? I have one of those growing in another spot and it's so pretty. I hope this year I can get seeds from it.

No, I wish it were - it's an Anemone.

If I get some seeds, I'll save you some. It's a beautiful plant. Although anemones are awfully nice too. :>)

Great picture! The jack-in-the-pulpits I've bought are spreading, and I'm so thrilled!
