I have a cane begonia that I bought last fall. Over the winter it grew really tall..I sat it out in the rain last week and something broke it off part way up..Now how can I root that??? Put in water or just put rooting hormone on it and plant in a pot???

Janet, you sure can root it and there are many different ways to propagate. Water rooting works, just watch for algae growth in the water and change if you see it. Brad Thompson suggests using the darkest bottle you can find to inhibit the algae growth, but NOT to change the water if you can help it because Begonias naturally produce their own rooting hormones which will concentrate in the water.
Another way to root it is to put it in a plastic cup with a 50/50 mix of evenly moist , not soggy, perlite or vermiculite (or just straight perlite) and put a bag over the entire thing. Watch out for excess moisture which will rot your cutting.
Bottom heat helps if you can provide it (heating mat or others use the top of their fridge since it's warm)
Once rooted, make sure you bury it several nodes deep to encourage basal growth (multiple branches coming from the base)
