My husband took these so he could ask me what kind of bird it was (I'm happy he's taking an interest). I'm pretty sure it's a Summer Tanager, but wanted confirmation. Also, is it male or female?
Kinda irritates me that he got these great pics of one when he just happened to be out there because I tried all last summer to get them myself, and I've been spending hours out in the back yard hoping to even see one, much less get pics. . . I've seen lots of other new birds this year though so I can't be too unhappy. Besides, there's plenty of time to see the Summer Tanagers. Summer's not even all the way here, although the heat index was around 100 today.
