At The Oriole Buffet!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Things are usually pretty calm and quiet at the buffet table. It is a fairly peaceful place to visit

There is a variety of birds that will visit the buffet in the course of a day. This is very enjoyable to those of us watching the buffet. :)

So cute, your photos are always great, but this series kinda tells a story. Great job!

What are you putting in the bowls now that they all love?

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Ah...what a great series Nanny and really shows the variety of birds you get in your yard!! I am still looking for my first Catbird...lucky you!!

Blue dog dish has orange half, in the middle is the grape jelly and the the little purple dish on the right is red grapes!

Thanks! Hoped you like it!!

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Great guest buffet. I'm sure they are having a great feast.

Beachwood, NJ(Zone 6b)

Cute series, nanny! I am still waiting to see my first in my yard...

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I sure hope they show up soon for you GM!!

Norman, OK

I've had the buffet open all spring, but no takers 'til the last couple of days. I've had both a male and female Baltimore Oriole visit very briefly. They are extremely wary, but have located the feeder. Hopefully, they will join the ranks of the regulars.

Let's hope so...great pic!!

Orchard Park, NY

Lovely birds nanny and red. I just heard/saw my first orieoles of the season yesterday a.m. I'll have to put out the jelly tomorrow. They stopped by a couple times last year. Maybe I'll get lucky like you two.

Sanford, NC(Zone 7a)

Great series Nanny! I WAS gonna make a smartazz comment about the pic "somedays 3 really is a crowd". Something to the effect that I bet the bird with it's mouth open was a female...............However after getting the feeling that I am outnumbered by women on here I changed my mind. *whistles innocently* heehee

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I figured it to be the female too...kind of like me....LOL!!!

Mrs. Oriole showed up for the breakfast buffet. Dined on grapes followed by a dessert of grape jelly.

I was thinking of making myself one of those feeder Red, paint it orange and serve jelly, and orange. Seem to attract them. I haven't seen them yet. Put up some sugar water for them.

PERTH, Australia

Nanny, what a lovely thread. I loved your commentary.

Nice shots, RDR.

My buffet table could use a roof on the rainy days!! Nice pics

Dixon, IL(Zone 5a)

Nanny, I love your bird buffet. Also, I never thought to put out grapes. One thing that I put in my oriole feeder that they also like though is apple jelly. My hubby would really complain if I started buying grapes though. He thinks it is bad enough that I use all HIS grape jelly. I eat strawberry jelly. LOLOL

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

May have to try some apple. I tried peach last year and they never did eat it. But someone els had luck with it.

Norman, OK

I buy the big jars of grape jelly at Sam's. Cheapest I can find and grape seems to be their favorite.

Burn, I had thought about building a feeder similar to this also, ran across this one in Wild Birds Unlimited and impulse took over. :-)

Looks like one of my females is a juvenile. She comes with another female and acts like her offspring. Yesterday Male #1 would run her off every time she came near the feeder.

Dixon, IL(Zone 5a)

The orioles are just as possessive of the feeders as the hummers are of theirs. LOL. It is hilarious to watch.
