When can we start our vegi seeds outside?

I kow its ok for spinach & lettuce but what about bush beans and carrots and radishes and sweet corn? I know I am supposed to wait to plant annual flowers from seed till 2 weeks from now but wondering if veggies are different...

Beans, cuckes, squash etc. germinate so fast that I usually wait till the soil has warmed up to at least 50 degrees. Watch the temperature. If it stays on the warm side and the nighttime temperature doesn't drop below 40 degrees, I'd say to go ahead and plant out by mid May. If it stays cold and we get a ton of rain the seed will just sit there and rot and you might want to wait another week or two after that. I'm not going to plant my bush beans and stuff for another week or two unless we get a real heat wave. I sometimes take my cue from the farmers who plant corn. If you see them out planting you might want to also. I know they don't want to waste hundreds of dollars worth of seed. I've seen farmers turning over and disking but no planting yet. I might be wrong though.

Thanks for the advice! Just antsy to see green all over the garden!

Oh, me too! I've about killed myself getting rid of some of the green though. (meaning lemon balm, and Artimesia)
I planted kale, chard, lettuce, beets and turnips yday.

Wished tonight I could freeze time and get all the work done in this weather. To, this is perfection!

It's raining here today. We put in a full day yesterday though. Hubby mowed inside the picket fence and I mowed all the rest. :) I was on the mower for a couple hours at least. I love to mow though so I was happy. I still have a lot of mulch to put down around the flower bed. I pulled grass out from around a few of my climbing roses. Those thorns hurt!! I sprayed all the fruit trees with deer repellant and the flower beds and roses as well. We have a bumper crop of deer that are hungry and bold coming out during the day even. The Liquid Fence works good as long as I reapply it ever few weeks. Vern found two tiny baby bunnies in the yard. He was so sympathetic. I told him they were flower eaters and had to go. We took them for a ride and left them at the end of the property at the edge of the woods. I did see my snake, Scooter, and he's doing well. Good snake! He eats baby bunnies and mice who try to eat my flowers. :)

Wish we could keep those 70 degree temperatures. Love it. It was a perfect day. Everything is so green and lush. These rains are keeping everything happy.

I did hear the weatherman say it's going to get into the 30's for a couple nights. We'll get a few more frosts before planting day so don't jump the gun and waste your efforts unless it's a plant that can take a light frost.

Patriotboy, do the plants that I sent you look like they're going to make it? Birdie

Peas, greens and potatoes can go in any time now. Hold off on the tomatoes and peppers though...they like it warm at night.

We had a freeze the last two nights in a row. Got down to 32 degrees here where I'm at. Glad I haven't planted anything out yet. I do plan to get the broccoli, cabbage and spinach in today if possible. Still need to re-till the garden one more time. I'll hold off on everything else for another couple weeks.

My potatoes are about 4 to 5 inches tall so far. Need to find some time for lettuce, radish's, spinach and carrots...
