My lillies and lotus need to be repotted. I went to my local pond store to get larger pots. I was shocked at the price, $12 -$16 each for solid black plastic. I went on line and found mesh baskets, with or without handles. They were much more reasonable, $5 - $8 each. I need a dozen. What are you using for pots? I really don't want to spend $100+ for plastic pots.
I have used cat litter in the past as the planting medium. I attended a lily class and the guy suggested using top soil. Do you have a preference?
Thanks, Charles
Pots for Lillies and Lotus
I found rectangular dish pans at the dollar store for 1.00 each to use for waterlilies. Some people have found round containers there as well to use for lotus. We were talking about this on this thread (scroll down a little)

For soil I mixed topsoil with kitty litter and added a little black cow. I think it is more of an individual preference on what you use.
I had a huge collection of hardies and I used nothing but dishpans from the dollar store. Although I have experimented with kitty litter with decent results, a trip to the east side of I-35 in Austin will put you in a good Blackland Prairie area with heavy clay dirt. It's just as good as the commercially available water plant soil and it's free if you make friends with a local business owner or homeowner.
I wouldn't add Black Kow to it - it's fine as is.
