Thalia daffodils not blooming

Lexington, MA(Zone 5b)

I planted over 100 Thalia bulbs1 year ago, I have a lot of foliage, but almost no blooms. Rich soil, partially shady, but some sun, Zone 5b. What is wrong?

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8b)

Maybe it is not enough sunlight. I put mine in last fall, in a location that is full sun. Every one bloomed this spring.

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

That is odd about the thalias. That is one variety that blooms without fail. Poeticus, on the other hand, has not bloomed since the first year, and it has been 3 years now. I have some thalia in partial shade and at least for me, they do fine, so that may not have been the problem for you. But, I am afraid I can't answer your question. Good luck in finding out.

Mouser,

We are close in zone and I purchased Thalia, Silk Shot and Tresamble (described as a larger Thalia) from the best there is, Old House Gardens. Those are all triandrus daffodils. Thalia was never strong, and lasted only two seasons; the other two lasted one. My Mount Hoods, Mrs. Backhouse, W.P. Milners, Vie en Roses have flourished, and increased, in the same spots under the same conditions over five years.

Maybe it's our zone? I notice that the nice people who responded here are in much warmer zones than we are.

I'm sorry that you had such a disappointing experience

My Thalia does fine in shade. The soil might be a bit too rich and they are growing leaves at the expense of flowers. Unless they are overcrowded they should flower well next year or the year after so don't give up hope.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Where did you get your bulbs? Another DGr got a bunch of landscape rounds from VanEngelen (and I think they were Thalia too) that did not bloom. Very odd for Thalia, as I've found it to be foolproof.

Donna, I think you may be on to something about the zone, since your Thalias dwindled.

Neal,

I think so. Too bad - love those things. But the failure of 4 different triandrus daffs when other divisions do peachily? Maybe I need to move over there with you in zone 6a!

I got my Thalia from KVB online wholesale and they did fine.
