Signs and sayings we love

South, TX

I saw Lin's sign and thought we could share signs and sayings we love.

This is one of my favorite sayings, since childhood.

After being ill for so long, this is the word I love a lot. I have several rocks and things around the house and garden with this word.

God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference

Sally, that too is one of my all time favorites. My mom used to say it was an old Irish saying that her mother told her.

Ok, no more pictures and I'm almost done hogging the thread but will list a few of my favorite garden phrases, verses etc.

"Where Flowers Bloom ... So Does Hope" - Lady Bird Johnson

"You can bury a lot of troubles digging in the dirt!"

"Cares melt away when you kneel in a garden."

"In the garden of your soul, plant kindness and simplicity."

"Bloom where you are planted!"

"Gardening is an instrument of Grace."

"He who plants a garden works hand in hand with God."

"More than anything, I must have Flowers, always, always!"

"Life is like a garden ... you will reap what you sow. All that you tend with loving care, will multiply and grow."

"In a corner of my garden where the wildflowers grow, I sit and I admire how God has graced us so."

"Oh Adam was a gardener, and God who made him sees, that half a proper gardener's work, is done upon his knees." - Rudyard Kipling

"Peace is not the absence of trouble. Peace is the presence of God."

"The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

"How lovely is the silence of the garden."

and finally, last but not least ...

"Leave room in your garden for the Angel's to dance!"

(Zone 1)

Sally, I must say again ... you do an outstanding job with the photo shop or whatever it's called, putting captions on your lovely photo's. I think I recognize that first photo as your own garden? You have a talent with design, with your plants as well as your photo's!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

"Bloom where you are planted" has been a fave of mine for years--I even had checks that had that saying printed on them at one time. I was less wilted then--thanks for reminding me!

South, TX

Thank you Lin, yes, that is my garden. Several years ago.

All of your pictures are great, Lin!

"Bloom where you're planted" is one I love also.

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

It seems to help with lots of things, doesn't it. ^_^.

(Zone 1)

LOL, I think we are ALL wilted at some time or another in life ... it's impossible not to be! This garden with all of you wonderful folks is a definite RX of sharing, knowledge, laughter, (and sometimes tears), but most of all ... friendship!

Beautifully put Lin!!

Love that one Gail! My sister or niece or somebody had a little pewter angel that said "Never drive faster than your Guardian Angel can fly."

Here is my favorite all time email which I printed and hang on my mirror every morning where I can read it again: Now...............if I can only learn to put the glass down!!!

Stress and a Glass of Water

A lecturer, when explaining stress management to an audience, raised a glass of water and asked,

"How heavy is this glass of water?"

Answers called out ranged from 20g. to 500g.

The lecturer replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter.

It depends on how long you try to hold it.

If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem.

If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm.

If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance..

In each case, it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes."

He continued, "And that's the way it is with stress management.

If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the

burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on. "

"As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again.

When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden."

"So, before you return home tonight, put the burden of work down.

Don't carry it home.........You can pick it up tomorrow.

Whatever burdens you're carrying now, set them down

and don't pick them up again until after you've rested a while.

Here are some great ways of dealing with the burdens of life:

* Accept that on some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue.

* Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.

* Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.

* Drive carefully. It's not only cars that can be recalled by their Maker.

* If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.

* If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

* It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to be kind to others.

* Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because you won't have a leg to stand on.

* The second mouse gets the cheese.

* When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.

* Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.

* You may be the only one person in the world, but you may also be the world to one person.

* Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

* We could learn a lot from crayons... Some are sharp, some are pretty, and some are dull.

Some have weird names and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.

* A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

God bless you.........

"LIVE simply, LOVE/GIVE generously, CARE deeply, SPEAK kindly and LEAVE the rest to GOD."

I'm loving this thread! Too bad we can't make it a sticky! Serenity through Violets....

(Zone 1)

Gail, I think it was you who e-mailed that to me recently and I LOVE it ... printed it out and have plans to laminate it so it won't get worn and torn!

Here's another saying I like a lot:

"All The Flowers OF All The Tomorrows Are In The Seeds Of Today"

I've been saying for years that Playing in the Dirt is my therapy, and when googling I came across this one: "A Garden is the best alternative therapy." - Germaine Greer

(Zone 1)

Sometimes we all feel a little wilted and "weedy" don't we? Well ...

"A weed is just a flower in disguise."

(Zone 1)

^_^

I have a list of these things ... was going to print some out and frame them a year or so ago, never did.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lin, I did send it to you, but I marked off the friend's name that sent it to me...........because she is my pastor's wife.........and sorta private...........she sends the best emails in the world...........

OK........Lin, if you put it all together............all the neat and inspiring sayings you have collected, I will have them put into little books by Kinko............and then anyone can have one that wants it for the small price that Kinko will charge for putting it together in a binder........

Columbus, OH

My husband is American, but grew up in Delhi, and my in-laws gave me a garden ornament plaque that says "To forget how to dig the earth and to tend the soil is to forget ourselves. Mahatma Gandhi" in Hindi. They had to tell me what it says, but I still like it.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

"We were all born in the Garden... that is where God made us."

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Nice ^_^

(Zone 1)

Oh, I love that one! And, I think we all Belong in the Garden!
