Something is Messing with my Mint

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

I think it is Spearmint.
What does this damage? I have looked and have not seen the culprit.

Looks like your mint might have rust. Cut out and dispose of any plants effected. Don't put in the compost pile. It must be thrown in the garbage or burn pile.

I didn't know we had Rust in Texas....that is a fungal disease?

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

Melva, if you've had as much rain as has been around Kilgore, you might get a fungal problem this year.

We have had a lot of rain...that is true.
I saw an insect on the plant the other day...a tiny one and by the time I got the camera turned on, etc. the bug was gone...
it was shiny, had yellow lines on his back, and red on his face. I saw it so briefly. I am going to look and see if I can find what insect it is.

Central, VA(Zone 7b)

My spearmint is experiencing this same problem right now and we have had plenty of rain--almost every day. Seems more like Florida than VA. I've been cutting off the affected leaves and it seems to be getting better. I, too saw some small beetle type animal on the mint, but I think it's rust like you've said.

Looks like a sucking insect kind of damage.

Melva, could your bug have been a cucumber beetle?

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

dovey, thanks! I am pretty sure that is what it is...

They're the devil to get rid of, sometimes we spray the base of the plant and the surrounding soil every other day to keep them in check.
