I have a Mountain Magic that had a single bloom but unfortunately, nothing to polinate it with... now it is forming some more buds and again, nothing to polinate them when they bloom. Is it possible to mail pollen and if so, is anyone out there with blooming brugs willing to mail me some pollen? It will be a while, the buds are very tiny right now. I would really love to get some seeds! I usually end up with blooms at the end of the year and never have time for the seeds to form so this is exciting.
Thank you.
This is MM when she bloomed last fall ... she was fighting spider mites.. she is now in a much larger pot and MUCH happier. Just fighting 98 degree temps and 7% humidity! LOL I mist several times a day!
Anyone willing to share some Brug Pollen?
Tammie, My Creamsickle and a NOID that I suspect is Lemon Twist have a few buds that are about to open. I could try to collect some pollen off of them and send it to you. Let me know if interested.
My Peaches and Cream has some buds, but the offspring are likely to be albinos. I just came in from watering my Brugs, but I really wasn't paying attention to buds. I was looking more at what I needed to repot and weeds that have grown in the pots since last week. High temperatures and low humidity may keep pollination from taking place, but it doesn't hurt to try. I thought you had more than one Brug.
I have pollen in the freezer from painted lady, adeline, new orleans lady and panhandle princess.
I do have more than one.. but the rest are either new cuttings from last fall and are still babies or will not bloom until the fall.. nothing else is near big enough or has a Y .. I have never had blooms this early in the year so never been able to have a seed pod develop. I don't have anything to polinate the blooms with when they open.
Well, I do have a versicolor peach that is big enough but it lost its only buds last month in the wind storms and there are no signs of it forming any more buds. I have never seen it bloom.
I will d-mail you.
Belle, do you have photos of Panhandle Princess?
Oooooooo, I love the length of those tendrils!
she sure is pretty! The buds on mountain magic are growing a lot faster than I have ever seen before... they were so tiny you could barely see them a couple days ago and now are about 1/4 inch long... that is startling fast.. I am spraying with "the recipe" it sure is putting the leaves on my hibiscus and must be doing something for this brug... off to the 103 outdoors to plant a brug in the ground.. wish me luck to survive!
I am amazed at those two buds I found as miniscule newbies on the 5th.. one is almost 2 inches today! Growing faster than I have ever seen... and I found some more tiny buds today! She is going to have a FLUSH instead of just a few blooms! I am getting excited...
...even more exciting.. I am seeing baby preying mantisis .. I have seen 3 in the past week. Found one on this brug last night. I bought an egg pod 2 years ago.. never had them around before that.. had tons hatch from it.... put them all around. I guess some survived and I have babies again. Here is a picture of one of the original babies from 2 years ago when it hatched.
Tammie, I collected some anthers from Creamsickle this evening. Now I need to let them dry for a few days before mailing the pollen.
OH, that will be perfect.. Green Thumbs sent me some pollen from 4 of hers.. I have found 5 buds on her so far... yours will make it 5! Absolutely PERFECT! 5 different crosses this is going to be fun.. I don't have natural insects that know what a brug is to polinate them either. When she bloomed last year I never saw a single inset show any interest in her day or night and I was enjoying her blooms all the time.
Around here sphinx moths are the natural pollinators. In the past I've had several seedpods form due to these hummingbird sized moths.
well, since this will be the only brug blooming, it can't pollinate itself. I saw one of those once years ago.. cool looking things, very rare here.
Just wanted to update those who have shared pollen with me.. this brug has had three bloom cycles so far with between 3 and 5 blooms each. I have pollenated all blooms each time and so far NO LUCK!!! I think it may be because it has been so very hot. She is about to bloom again! I am shocked. There were 11 buds a few days ago but as they have grown many have dropped because of the heat and there are only 5 now. I am hoping these survive. This plant is my oldest one.. one of the first I received as a cutting and every year has only bloomed once so this year it just keeps amazing me.
Anyone willing to share some Brug Pollen?
