Here is my friend, Rita's Lavendar Blush bloom. She has it planted in part sun and she lives in Dallas. She probably took this picture in the morning I am assuming.

Very pretty right!!!
Here is my first LB bloom. Mine is in full sun and the picture was taken at 3 in the afternoon. And yes it's already hot here in South Texas.
Don't you think I should move mine into a part sun location or a pot where I may get better color???? I know I'll get some fading as the day goes on regardless, but don't you think I'll get better color if I move it out of the sun?????
I'm just learning with these "new toys" so your input is greatly appreciated.

What Would YOU Do???
I don't have that one so I don't know if it'll affect the color, but I know my hibiscus are much happier if they get some afternoon shade vs being in full sun during hot weather.
The only citation of a hibiscus named Lavender Blush I have seen is in this page
http://www.osogrowers.com/exotichibiscus.html
All I can say is that your plant is a variety called Marilyn Quayle and it is in perfect conditions.

Patty it may make a bit of a difference if it gets some more shade during the day. It may slow down the process of the bloom fading and it may not. Each variety has its own unique characteristics. In general many of the Hibiscus do not have as vivid colors during the summer temperatures. They usually do upon first opening in the morning but the colors fade much faster during the day. You will probably notice very different color shading on that bloom when you get some blooms on it in autumn when temperatures are in the 50's and 60's. Those are the days when you oftentimes get some amazingly ViViD colors.

I pulled up the link again that carlo sent and was looking at it and I finally realized who that is and why I see the same hibiscus in all of my nurseries in my area. Oso Growers is the ONLY wholesaler in my area. All the local nurseries must get their hibiscus from this wholesaler.
I agree Carlos, that's a very pretty Marilyn Quayle.
The Lavendar Blush is lovely also, but not the same cultivar at all.
Barb
Yeah I don't know about that particular species but some of mine can't get enough of sun and others that start wilting soon after the sun comes up.
Anne
What is a Marylyn Quayle??? the actual cultivar?????
It took me a minute but I realized what Oso Growers is. It is the wholesaler in my area so that must be where the local nurseries buy that cultivar of hibiscus. I've actually seen the name, Lavendar Blush, at two different nurseries in this area.
Sometimes it's hard to tell exactly which variety it is because the coloration of the blooms varies quite a bit during the course of the year. Yes, there is a Tropical Hibiscus cultivator named "Marilyn Quayle".
Jon
I don't know who Oso Growers is and I never heard of a cultivar named Lavender Blush but, as I said, I think your plant is a cv called 'Marilyn Quayle'.
In the Oso Growers' link I post, most of the varieties come from Curt Sinclair (http://www.exotichibiscus.com/). Indeed, in that page, they appear with the word "Exotic" whitin brackets. Yours is also of one his varieties. There is also at least one wrongly labelled as Fifth Dimension, the first one in the link, is quite different from the one shown.
Attached you have my Marilyn Quayle.

They are just a wholesaler in my area. I doubt very seriously that they hybridize their own hibiscus. But would they just come up with a name for a hibiscus instead of using the appropriate one???? That sure makes things confusing doesn't it. If I get a chance I will ask the next time I'm at one of the nurseries and see if anyone there has a clue.
Thanks!
Anything's possible Patty. I've seen plants relabeled and it seems like they might do that occasionally. There is one garden center down here right now that has about 50 potted Hybrid Hibiscus. They are all labeled just "Hybrid Hibiscus". The only way you have any idea what you're buying is if it just happens to have a bloom on it the day you are there.
