I'm new and wanted to say hello.............

Sanford, NC(Zone 7a)

Hi all, I'm new and wanted to say hello. I'm Jay and I've been lurking for about a month. I've followed birds off and on for about 35 years, but I'm just now getting into photographing them and love it! It's a great challenge. I have been blown away by the quality of photos on here! I'll never be that good, but I do enjoy taking them. I live almost in the center of North Carolina, three hours to the beach, three hours to the mountains and two hours to the promised land, aka Hendrick Motorsports. I enjoy this forum and hopefully I'll be able to contribute something. :)

Welcome to Daves' Garden. You live in a great area for birding. Hope you'll be sharing some pictures soon.

Welcome to the Bird Watching forum 24!!!

We look forward to hearing from you again and maybe seeing some of your pics!

Welcome Jay...hope to see you often!

Wilmar, AR(Zone 8a)

Howdy from Arkansas, Jay! I'm fairly new here, too, and I love this forum. Everyone is so nice and helpful

Sanford, NC(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the nice welcome ya'll, I appreciate it! :) Here's a pic I took of a Cedar Waxwing. I swear I can take a better pic of a car going 200 mph plus on the back stretch a mile and a half away at Talladega than of a bird sitting 20 feet up in a tree. *sigh*

You did very good Jay!!

Thanks Pelle! I'll try and contribute some more when I have time. I really love seeing other people's pics on here, it inspires me!

Hi Jay!! Welcome to the forum! Love to see a fellow Nascar lover too!!! We are thinking of retiring to NC and looking at the middle of the state...Piedmont area. We just got a book with formation yesterday in the mail.

Look forward to seeing you around!

Sanford, NC(Zone 7a)

Thanks Nanny. :) I love my racin! I'm going to Darlington Saturday to pull for that 24 car. I think you'll like NC. Just be warned we hardly ever get snow. :(

WHAT? And leave my close-ish proximity? *sniff*

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Oh my.....not for awhile Mrs. Ed!!! DH is only 54...would like to retire at 62 but who knows if that can happen. AND maybe you and Mr. Ed could go that way too ....sooo much closer to pelle! LOL

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Nah, we'd probably head southwest because Mr. Ed is allergic to everything in the world.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

ROFLOL!!!!

Sanford, NC(Zone 7a)

Wanting to move for NO snow????

*gasps and falls to the floor in shock*

If it snowed three feet I'm disappointed it didn't snow four feet. I LOVE me some snow!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Jay, that's because from November until March you don't have to deal with it day after day after day after day after day…

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

I'm with Nanny and Mrs Ed snow BAD. 6mths is too long., Have to add an extra month cause I'm way up north. I would head south too. :)
Welcome to the forum Jay, the grass is much greener on your side of the fence.lol
Can wait to see your contributions.

Sanford, NC(Zone 7a)

Dealing with snow? Hmmmmmmmmm...........Watch it snow, buy beer. Go sledding, drink beer. Watch the forecast that calls for more snow, go buy more beer. Think about no yard work for five months, drink more beer. Drink beer wondering why people hate snow? LOL ;)

Sanford, NC(Zone 7a)

The grass is always greener on my side of the fence cause it never snows burn_2007! LOL Thank you for the welcome and I hope I can contribute something worthwhile. :)

South Hamilton, MA

Snows here, but results in interesting birds at the feeder. Only 2 goldfinches here this winter for some reason.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Hi Jay, living near the promiseland heh? Hummm, I'm near Taladega, and def. not pulling for '24' car, but since he's '88' partner now, I think I'll take you under my wings. Just kidding. My hubby is the fan, I just tag along (the races just to see my boy Jr. lol). Welcome to the forum. One thing we've in common. I LOVE those Cedar Waxwings, so welcome once again. No snow for me, 'cause every time it snows here, everything got shut down. lol.

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

I seemd to have hi-jacked this thread! LOL

Sorry 24...I am a Jeff gal....DH for Mark Martin...I like him too and so easy now that they are on the same owners team!!

I really like Carl Edwards too...he is just such a sweet kid. He is the Mark Martin of his generation! Has integrity and just wants to race clean.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Tehehehehe, Mrs_Ed. It's the Nascar's dilect! LOL.

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

I'm a tarheel transplant & I don't get it either, so........^_^

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

my husband friends speak all this Nascar language. He's picking this dialect too and I jut look at him and say "who ARE you?"

Sanford, NC(Zone 7a)

Hey Lily! HMS is the promised land, but Dega is God's country. I go to Dega every fall and I'm in heaven as it's my alltime favorite track. Bumper to bumper at 200 mph plus inches apart......it doesn't get any better than that! I've got chills now just thinkin about it. LOL I like Jr, I like all the drivers except Jimmie Johnson. I'll even pull for Kyle Bush before JJ.

The Cedar Waxwings are one of my favorite birds. A few others being the Indigo Bunting and Blue Grosbeak. I love those three!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

We have been to Charlotte, Talladega...which we loved by the way! Love that track! And Daytona...which really was a bit disappointing. And of course IMS here in Indianapolis for the Brickyard several times. Would love to get to Bristol, Richmond & Darlington someday!

Mrs. Ed, there is nothing like going to a track and hearing the sound of those engines...exhilarating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Nanny. um. yah. sure.

Sanford, NC(Zone 7a)

Nanny is right Mrs_Ed, there's nothing like being there in person. The sound is deafening, literally. The smell of racin fuel in the air, as well as the smell of tire smoke after a spin as it drifts over the crowd. If you sit low like I will at Darlington this weekend, you even get to wear the race home with you as in being covered in rubber. It's soooooo cool! It's a lot more than 43 cars going around in circles and turning left. You get to know the good drivers (Jeff Gordon, Jr, Martin) and the bad ones (Jimmie Johnson) Not to mention the people watching will make you forget all about bird watching sometimes. LOL

I've done Bristol and Rockingham (ARCA race) already this year Nanny. I had tix for M'ville but had to miss it cause I was sick with Sciatica. :( I'm doing Darlington this weekend, with the fall Dover, M'ville, and Dega to follow. I cut back to six races this year. The pic is what happened on the last lap at Dega April 26th Mrs_Ed. Carl jumped out of the car after it finished wrecking and ran across the finish line. That's kind of bird related.......he was "flying"? LOL

I was sooooo holding my breath when that happened! I was really hoping he would win that one.

MRs. Ed, Something else that is really cool is to do is the Petty Driving Experience! We both did the ride along at IMS. I had given him one as a anniversary gift one year. When he got home he was soooo excited and was like we have to gon back tomorrow so you can do it...an I did!!!

The take the photo BEFORE you go, so I was a little scared. THey should take it when you get done...then there would have been a BIG smile!

you people are really sick. :-) Okay, WHY would I want to lose my hearing, risk my life, pollute my lungs!!! PU.

I'll take my new backyard pond!

Now driving IN the car is another thing. I think I could do that.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

I'm sticking with this . . .

Good for you, Resin, although I saw a Red Kite while riding on a tourist coach. Don't need all the noise either.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Oh, Oh Oh....they DO have a driving program at some tracks and YOU drive the car!

Sanford, NC(Zone 7a)

I did the RPDE where I got to drive the car all alone Nanny. I did mine at Charlotte at night and OMG it was sooooo awesome! I got eight laps and my fastest lap was 126.56 mph. At first I was a little disappointed, but when they told me considering I had never even sat in a race car much less driven one that was better than most. I was the fourth fastest out of my group. That wall comes up fast in the turns! I earned so much respect for the drivers after doing that. I was thinking I'm having this much trouble and I'm all alone out here, imagine what it's like with 42 other drivers out there with you and one of them is Robby Gordon! Not to mention they are running around a 185 mph on that track! If people ever get the chance to drive one, DO IT! It's incredible!

I have a ride along ticket as well, but haven't done it yet. I'd really like to do it at Dega. I'll probably need to carry another pair of pants with me if I do it there. LOL ;)

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

That had to be really cool!

Oh yeah...we would love to do it at Dega!!
