Vining plant for over pond

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Can anyone suggest a vining plant that we could put over our pond? (It's about 10 feet above the pond.) We had a netting cover there before and the lines are still up that help it upthere and we'd like to plant something there that won't drop anything into the pond, grows quickly to cover the pond to shade it from the sun. Any suggestions would be greatly welcomed. If I need to post a picture of the area I'm talking about, let me know if that will make it clearer as to what we want.
Thanks.

Perhaps Stephanotis Floribunda may be a vine to consider. I believe its leaf shedding is not as heavy as some. Hard to find non-shedding vine! How about roses???

Passionflowers, jasmine and mandevilla all have evergreen versions. However any vine evergreen or not will drop leaves and spent flowers .

I think a picture would help. PS.. I have a sister who lives in Rancho Cucamongo! It does get hot there, so if you can advise if this is a full sun area ..soil conditions etc..

Great suggestions Bea and Bedouin. I will take a look at all of your suggestions and here's a couple of pictures for you so you can see exactly what we're trying to do.
Yes it does get hot here Bea, it is full sun and we have good soil here.
This shot shows the area we'd like to cover, notice the cables over the pond...we'd like to tie trellis's up onto those cables and have something vine on the trellis's.

What we're trying to do is cover the pond with shade, the cables are from a cover we had up but the wind tore up. The pond is in full sun now hence the green water.
Here's another shot.

Would morning glories do good over the pond?
Edited to ask another question: Notice the trumpet vine (is that what it is?) behind the pond, we were also thinking it that would be good to train up over the pond.
Thanks for all of your help.

Morning glory seeds are toxic so not a good choice if you have fish.Trumpet vine flowers are also if injested. I think the mandevilla or jasmine may be a pretty choice. Have you thought about sky shadesth.
No pruning or watering required. Perhaps those Santa Anna winds would ruin these too, but they are nice.

We had shade cloth there and yup, Santa Ana's took care of that. Sky shades might be worth looking into and asking more about. Thank for the info on the morning glory seeds. Not too many of the flowers from the trumpet vine fall on the pond. Do you have the name of an evergreen jasmine? The 2 jasmine we have are very messy and I never considered putting them over the pond.
Thanks for the link to sky shades, will show dh.

Perhaps a shade cloth could be draped over the lines and secured tightly. This would act as a 'catch' for leaves which have been shed. But.....eventually one would have to remove the accumulation of these leaves.

My Queens Wreath (Petrea Volubilis) sheds leaves very slowly. Ideal for Zone 10B. http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=0&oq=petrea+vol&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGLJ_enUS315&q=petrea+volubilis

All these although "evergreen" will drop leaves and spent flowers. I think the sky shades would look nice
in your yard and no messes. Anyway, here is a link to a list of evergreen vines. You can click on each for info and a picture.

have you considered grapes?

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

We have grapes on our arbor. Wanting something that flowers.
Thanks Bea, will take a look and let you know. We're thinking of moving one of our passiflora's and training it. Whatcha think.

That was one of my suggestions in an earlier post. I am not that familiar with the leaf and flower shedding on those. My Grandfather had huge ones growing on his property in Pleasant Hill CA but I do not remember if they were messy. I think that would look beautiful however if you could get them to grow on your supprt lines. I love those plants.

You're the one that gave me the idea Bea! Looks like we'll be digging and planting it and hoping it takes off!
Thanks everyone, you've been a tremendous help.
