Excited. My first clematis purchase!!!

(Zone 4a)

Ok I know a lot of you already have plants in bloom by now....here nothing has really starting growing too much yet. Anyhow I made my first clematis purchase today....I got my HF Young for my tuteur!!!! The nursery also had liberation which I am thinking of getting and putting on the tuteur with HF Young but I am still a tad bit worried it might be too much for my tuteur??? What do you think? My tuteur is about 5 feet tall.

Yahoooooo I love Clematis shopping! LOL!!

One more thing...I have noticed that in some photo's HF Young seems to look like a dark purple and others are like a soft blue or lavender colour. What do yours resemble? Could you please post photo's of your HF young for me to see......It is possible when HF young is younger it blooms darker blooms? I was hoping this one would be a softer colour for me. TIA.

Thanks Jeanne....see that is why I pictured it would look like and that is what I am hoping it does look like. Even the photo on the tag that came with the plant is a darker purple...not light like the way yours looks. Your colour is the one I want.

You have such gorgeous clematis Jeanne!

hf young is one of the closest to a true blue. the color should sparkle and be unmistakable. my hf youngs are budding up here, bloom maybe in two weeks. the thing about it , for me, it is a shorter bloom period for me, but that may be because all of mine are under 4 yrs of age. so i am watching carefully this year and we'll see. however, even with a short bloom period the color is worth it, it is a seductive color and beautiful clem.

and a close up of last year's hf young. at least this year the blooms will be up off the ground at eye level....immature clems can bloom so low, i ususally don't take pics of them until they are bigger, but this one is seductive at any height.

Lovely photo's. Ok that is enough to make me feel secure in my purchase. I have decided against liberation to plant with it......I am still thinking of other's at this time.

I got my mom started in clematis over a year ago. Right now I think she has about 7 in her collection. Yesterday I bought her a Polish Spirit to add to it...I figure you can't go wrong with Polish Spirit.
