Robert, you are killing me with those gorgeous new seedling, it just get better and better every time you post photos of your collection, there just outstanding.
Do you have a name for the first one or is it from the 6th Dimension, hope you clone this one a lot, your going to have a lot of hibiscus lovers like me who want one when you start to sell them. Again, just outstanding beauty.

Those are really pretty. Of course, my favorite is the second one Love that one! I'm with WQP, Robert; you've got to stop teasing us with these beautiful new babies. Patience is not a virtue I can attest too. I WANT IT AND I WANT IN NOW seems to be the only thing in my vocabulary. LOL How long does it take to get to the propagating stage with your new seedlings???

Doesn't 5th Dimension & Rum Runner both have orange in them??? I am surprised I see no orange in the first one, but then again, maybe I am mistaken. I'm just now starting to learn some of these names.

You've sure got some beauties.

This is what I call ANTICIPATION . . . .my first bloom on Lavendar Blush hibiscus. How long before it opens???? Let's wait and see. We've been having these massive winds here for weeks now; if it blows this bloom off, I will never forgive Mother Nature.

Love the new seedlings Robert. I can see exactly what you mean on the first seedlings coloration. Those are two great winning parents to cross. Perhaps its named "Dimension Runner"???

Thanks Wilfred and Patty,

I'll be cutting in another 3 to 4 weeks on the seedlings. I will see if they root well first. Time to evaluate them. I dont just want to throw them out there in the world with 1 long leggy branch of a bush. LOL

Rum runner is mainly a dark hot pink upon opening and fades to yellow as the day progresses. I see more 5th dimension in her. She just has not faded to pure yellow like the 5th does. Also 5th has more veining throughout the petals. See how she reacts through the day with temps.

Thanks Jon,

We crossed posts. I see both in them. The only thing is these colors seem to be more common now. I am looking for something to give the bloom it's own identity. Something to set it apart. I just dont want one that we look at ans say " Oh that looks like" You know what I mean?

Hi Patty,

Is lavender blush a single or double. She sounds pretty!!! I can't say I've heard of it before. Did you get it locally?
Anxious to see it as well!

Most of the nurseries in my area are carrying Rum Runner & Fifth Dimension. Rum Runner is not pretty like the picture you posted. The orange is more pronounced with a purplish gray center. I personally don't like it but I like the RR you posted cause no orange. I shy away from orange. I am trying to be careful with what I purchase, cause I feel our hot temp's probably have something to do with the color changes that bring out the orange. Seems like there are a lot of hibiscus with orange down here in my neck of the woods. There is another one Rachel something or other that is pink and orange, but once again the orange seems to be what stands out here.

Here is a Rita's picture that she posted of Lavendar Blush (she bought it on a visit here). I actually saw this hibiscus at two different nurseries this weekend here in South Texas and it was called LB. Neither one had an open bloom, but when Rita posted her picture, I went back to the nursery last week or so and got me one. Rita lives in the Dallas area so her temp's will be cooler than mine. It will be interesting to see if my LB is as pretty as hers.

Does it look like something you have seen before under a different name?

It's very pretty. Looks like it's got some good pollen too :-)

Robert

How much pine bark mulch do you add to your potting medium? Rough estimate ratio??? example: 2 parts potting medium to 1 part bark mulch

I'm going to try "doctor" up my potting soil but not sure how much of the pine bark mulch to use. I've never done this before, but you're the second person who has mentioned doing this. I bought the most composted pine bark mulch I could find. Thanks!

Hi Patty,

I actually plant all of my potted it Black Velvet Mulch with added perlite and vermiculite. I use 1 bag of the mulch to 2-6" pots of perlite and 2-6" pots of vermiculite. I usually mix when the soil or bags have not been rained on or gotten wet. Makes a muddy mess if they are wet!!! I never use potting soil or anything like that. I especially stay away from the fertilized soil because I fertilize each time the drips come on at a rate of 1 parts per 100 of 20-10-20. I used to add a little peat but found it held too much water with it. I also used to add 1/4" orchid bark but got rather expensive when your doing a bunch. This works for me because most of mine are on drips and I know they will not dry out. This mix can and will dry out. Hibbies would rather be on the dry side. Also they require watering 2 times per day in the heat of the summer if you use this mix. Others may have luck with different mixes.

Hope I've answered your question or helped you some,

Robert

Hey Robert, since you are a professional #1 Hibiscus hybridiser, and grower, and breeder, and care taker and a very loving dad with not only some of the most beautiful bloom I've seen but also with great looking foliage, have you ever written a book with all your seeding you created. It can help a lot of us amature hibiscus lover who are starting the hibiscus addiction, at lest it would help me take better care of mine ( like how long does seedling take to bloom, whats the best temp., how much sunlight is perfect for them to grow perfect like your do, bigger blooms, more blooms, richer colors, etc. etc. ) since your are such a knowledgeable person in this field. You could call it ( Robert's Dream World Hibiscus, Vol. 1 )

Hi Wilfred,

You are too kind. In all honesty I am still learning. I think I can tell you best right now about the do's and dont's in hurricanes LOL There is soooooo much experience here on DG it would be hard to compete with the likes of it. I may throw something together in a year or 2. I'll keep the name in mind as well. I'd be more than happy to answer your questions with what I do know and I'll post it for ya'll. Just give me a couple of weeks to get caught up.

Thank Robert, for your willingness in helping others, you are very kind person indeed. May god bless you and your lovely family forever.

Thanks for all the detail; it has helped; I've got to modify mine somewhat obviously; but I'm getting an idea what I need based on input from you and my other gardening buddy. I will need something that holds a little more moisture in since I don't get the rain or have a drip system nor do I water twice a day in the heat of the summer so I've got to take all these factors into play. I bought a cheap tropical hibiscus this weekend in a 4" pot for $5. It will be my experiment specimen. It's a pretty red frilly thing and I like it so hopefully I won't kill it but if I do I won't cry over its death like I would if it were one of my nicer ones. LOL

Thanks again for taking the time to educate & help us novices.

Not much change early this afternoon on 5th Dimension x Rum Runner. A little fading to some yellow on the edges.

It still looks beautiful, it's like you got one bloom in the morning and another different bloom in the evening on the same plant.
