I came home to this yesterday afternoon. It's my tall coreopsis flopped over and beaten down from the heavy winds and hard, driving rain we had during yesterday's storms (round 1). This is the same storm that took down the Cowboys' training facility. Please tell me it'll perk back up after it dries out a bit.
Will it Recover?
A lot of mine flop over after a rain or wind. I would think they will be fine. If you wanted to, I would drive a stake in ground on each side of it and then take a string tied to them to support it. Give it a day or so first as it might perk up on it's own.
See you soon in J'ville.

I decided to stake it for awhile and see what happens. Some of it had started to recover, but most of it was still face down on the sidewalk.
Stephanie Coreopsis is hardy plant, but do you cut it back in the fall?
Sylvia, I didn't cut this one back during the winter, but it wasn't this huge either! LOL I grew this one from seed last year and thought it would be a smaller variety.
Here it is mid-February. See how floppy it was? It's the one in the upper right portion of the pic. There's a smaller variety next to it, between the big coreopsis and the daylily.
yes that is a nice one, but they always flop like that dont they? I use to buy them all the time... never thought about seeds. If they are like Zinnia seeds where you can just throw them out there I will consider buying seeds ... otherwise I lack the patience to deal with seeds...mainly because I forget about them. lol
I want to say thanks for identifying my mystery plant!! I was lurking over here on your forum and when I saw this I discovered what I have flopping over in my garden bed. I almost yanked it out. So is this a perenial and should I cut it back or canit be cut back?
My coreopsis isn't nearly as tall, and is only just now beginning to bloom. Go figure. But my onions took a pretty good beating last week from the rain, and I'm not sure what to do with them.
Marie-it is a perennial. I didn't cut it back last fall, but I might do it this year once it dies back.
