Hi Green: Nice looking run, they'll be happy campers. I was wondering in your part of the country theres a lot of fishing boats. (Yes, No) I go down to where the fishing boats are and pick up large mesh old fishing net. The mesh is large enough that the snow goes through it, except when it's freezing snow. I put it on with zip ties so I can remove them and tighten it after each winter season as it does stretch because its nylon. Works well though. Out side of that I'm short on ideas. Good luck and I know you'll have a blast with your new babies. I myself have fifty-one new babies comming in Monday morn. Haystack

I used cherry tree netting on one of my old coops once.. it worked well. It goes on clearance for next to nothing in the late fall.. right now its reg price but even at that it is not to awful high..

Wow! How many chickens?

On one of mine, I have shade cloth. Our summers are brutal. I can't afford to cover all of them with it.. Wish I could!!

Shade cloth wouldn't do too well in the snow. I like the netting ideas, wouldn't have thought of fishing nets!

I can't wait to see all your pic's, that will be a lot of fun, and thats so cool that your DH is so considerate of your wishes. We wait anxiously. Haystack

Yeah Porkpal, the fish netting is a little stinky from the salt water and fish but after it's up a couple days, no smell at all. What I really like about it is that its really heavy guage nylon, and will last for years on end and it's free.

I found some avery netting on ebay so I ordered that,I`m going out to take more pictures today will post later, still not done, got to do inside and put netting on top and apron the run and coop before I put the girls in and cluck(rooster)My dh starts work full time as a carpenter tomorow so the rest will be slow going as his hrs will be 7 to 5 and by the time he gets home and has super it will be 6;30 or so so not much time lest for him.I might just try my hand at putting insulation,he already has the nesting boxes made and the roost, going to take out the feeder box from the little coop and build another one for the big coop also as there will 40 to 50 chickens in there at summers end.My dh told me we are 4hrs away from the coast not 2hrs,I don`t get out of town much so not sure where anything is.lol I am so happy with the coop and run, they did such a good job.My father passed away in Dec. and left me a little money and thats what I wanted to do with it was have a bigger coop and run,I know Dad would have liked that idea he was always asking about my chickens and telling me stories about when he was a kid and had chickens and about the nasty rooster that always attacked him when he would go for the eggs and one day he kicked him as hard as he could and he never bothered him again.I will miss the stories of what it was like back then.

Green! What fond memories of your father, I know you'll miss him but you'll always have those wonderful stories and coop that keep him alive for you. Thank you for sharing a little of your family with us

I'm so tickled for you, So sweet that Papa left you with a little for your coop and that he took an interest in you and your chickens. Haystack.

Thanks! Will go catch up!

I'm sorry about your Dad. Nice that you'll kind of associate him with what you love....
