Wow, I have only seen wind like what came through in the early morning hours when remnants of a hurricane passed through San Antonio years ago; however, this was not straight line wind. It was the kind that twists things. Some of my hanging baskets were blown from the trees, containers were blown over and rolled around the yard, 1 bougainvillea snapped off at ground level, angel trumpet leaves and blooms shredded and blooms blown off, 1 vine ripped from the top of its 8 foot high trellis, tops of tomato and pepper plants broken, etc. I haven't had the heart to look for other damage as of yet. My neighbor's peaches were thrown off the tree with such force that they cracked 2 of her windows! Another neighbor has a large tree down. Its large trunk was twisted at base. The electricity went out for quit some time. I think there were gusts up to and maybe over 70 miles an hour. Damage could have been worse and I am thankful of that. Of course, we were not forewarned by the weather people so that we could have prepared for the onslaught.
Wind damage
Hazel, I am so sorry, it is so sad to have things damaged or destroyed when you work so hard to take care of them.
Josephine.
Sad to see what you have fretted over and cared for so long to be gone in an instant. But as you said, it could have been worse.
Thanks Josephine and Sheila. After hearing about and seeing the damage sustained by tornadoes and hurricanes, I should not even complain. I am wondering if other areas had winds this strong too. Hondo reported winds reaching 68 mph.
We had a lot of wind, but not nearly that bad. My rose beds are covered with petals.
lrwells50, thanks for the information. Remarkably my rose blooms faired very well.
