Just for fun list what bird(s) you really would like to see and /or photograph most this summer. It will be interesting to see if any of us have our wishes come true!
I know they are here and in the area, so the my list is truly possible
Mature Summer Tanager
Scarlet Tanager
Eagle- have seen it but I want photos! lol
What do want to see?
Summer Wish List
Hi Nanny good idea for a thread! I would heart to have a Baltimore Oriole in my yard. Every spring I put out orange halves and grape jelly, but no takers! Maybe this year.... GM
No Painted Bunting so far this year. I've had them for some period for the past 4 years. I'm also putting out feed for Orioles, but I'm not in very good habitat for them.
I've been searching the area for a photo of a Kestrel for over a year now. When I mention it to other birders in our area, they tell me they've seen them everywhere. Ha!
Three years ago I had a Calliope Hummingbird patronizing my feeder for about a week (late June I think). It's the only one I've ever seen. It would be fun to see him again. Cute little guy, maybe I'll get a decent picture this time.
This is a great idea for a thread Nanny!
I would love to see a Painted Bunting and a Kingfisher! I am sure there is more and will have to add to the list!!
Oh a kingfisher...yeah!!!! I got one very bad pic of one last year. Would love to see one up close.
Kingfishers are soooo cool. I only get to see them on vacation. The highlight of all my vacations.
i would love to see a scarlet tanager also. Oh, and a pileated woodpecker. My daughter saw one at a park she was hiking at and of course, called me right away. She thought it was hilarious.
Austringer, my Caliope pair are still here. They should be leaving any time now when it gets warmer outside. I'll tell them to head your way.
I'd really like to get a Scarlet Tanger and Yellow Warbler in my yard. We've been in our house (3/4 acre suburban property) just under 2 years now and I've worked really hard on birdscaping. My yard list is at 81 right now. I think getting to 90 should be relatively easy during this spring migration, but the final 10 is going to be a lot tougher.
Uh oh...somebody keeping score here now!! LOL
Gosh I wouldn't know where to start on my wish list. :-)
Gosh I wish I would have kept a list. Always read that but never did. My list would not be that impressive though. Great job. Good luck getting to 100. Kind of like losing weight huh? The last 10 is the hardest. LOL
Oh yeah...Good Luck getting to 100!!
I made that announcement last year and just barely made it!! Not in my yard but with in the area that I live. Luckily I live in a lake community so I was scoping the lake getting my last few!! Never again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why?? (never again)
The only list I keep is a yard list. It's kind of a strange (il)logic thing for me. My yard is my little piece of the world that I can make as wildlife friendly as possible through my gardening, habitat construction, etc. and the yard list is the way I keep track of my progress. So far so good.
Gosh I have so many! The top of my list would be a Pileated Woodpecker...not just a quick glimpse, a real life photo!! LOL
Scarlet Tanager
A Loon up close
Great Danes,
There's a couple of breeding pair of Pileateds in Valley Forge Park. I could point you in the right direction if you'd like.
because that was to nerve racking, I had those 2 or 3 wrong ID's....the stress was awful!!
Luv, we go to northern Wisconsin on vacation every year. Stay in a cabin on a lake and there are loons there. They are so cool and very very beautiful. Same place I see the kingfishers. I do hope you get to see one sometime. They have a very lonely eerie kind of call. My five year old loves them.
Thanks Jec I would love directions!! I saw a quick glimpse of one last week at Nockamixon State Game lands but couldn't get close.
Lynn I am told they are here at our local nature center bit never when I'm there!! LOL
ducbucln,
Thank you, tell those Calliope that my house is due East from there, can't miss it. Could you also send a Yellow-billed Magpie my way? I haven't seen one of those for a while. I once planned a whole trip to California just to see one.

I would love to see a Prothonotary Warber mostly. I see Summer Tanagers but never close up enough to get a good pic so that's another thing I would love to get. I would also love to see more owls...of any kind
I agree with birdlady too.
I would love to see owls or have them nest in my woods
Oh yes Owls would be a great one to have. I would also like to expand my Shore bird List.
Last year leaving for work at 4:30 am we had one hooting in our tree but that was the only time that we actually heard one near. It was so cool knowing they were that close.
I've heard them here at night but never seen one in the wild.
A good way to see owls is to go on an "owl prowl" at night. Usually in late winter one of our local nature centers will run one. Basically, we go out into an area of good owl habitat at dusk and play tapes. Since owls are pretty territorial, they'll call back and often move in pretty close for viewing. Check with your local parks and rec centers, audubon societies, etc.
Thanks Jec it nice and clear...
