Forgot to start my Asclepias seeds. Now what??

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi, all,

I just realized I got really behind this year and forgot to start my Asclepias Curassavia seeds.

So, does anyone by chance, know where I can buy tropical milkweed 'plugs' to give my garden a jump start? Maybe somebody right here on DG grows them for sale??

I found this seller on e-bay with small plants and I was wondering if anyone has dealt with them before? http://cgi.ebay.com/Asclepias-curassavica-Blood-flower-Asclepiadaceae-PLANT_W0QQitemZ260398959913QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item260398959913&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A16%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

(I know I can buy full plants locally, but I was hoping to keep the price down by buying 'plugs' or starts and grow them out in my garden.)

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Thanks, t.

Have you looked at the seller's feedback? I don't often use ebay, but on the rare occasion I do, I won't order from anyone who doesn't have an excellent feedback. You can also get a larger plant and then start some cuttings from it. Funny thing happened...this year I had a nursery gift certificate and used it to get a Mexican Milkweed plant in a gallon pot. It wasn't until later that I realized there was something odd about the plant. It turned out there was 5 plants growing fairly close together in that pot! When I planted, I separated the plants some, the best I could...and then cut them back, because I knew they'd really wilt after their roots were disturbed like that. Then I rooted the cuttings to make more plants. Turned out pretty well!

I find that when I am purchasing on Ebay or any mail order, I usually increase my order because of the shipping. It doesn't make sense to spend $4 or $5 on a plant and $8 on shipping.

Ah, yes, he's the fellow I purchased the Liatris Ligustylus from. I 'm glad to know you like his products!

I ordered 10 Asclepias curassavica from dogwoodriter (your source penne) and 2 Major Wheeler honeysuckles.

Now if I'm really lucky I'll get an extra big plant like yours, Linda! Or maybe I will watch out for a plant I can divide at the nursery. I always feel like I've really 'scored' when that happens!
